Ah yes the good old hypnagogic jerks.

Mine are violent, and I have even stubbed my toe on my bed from it LOL!

I don't know what causes them.. any ideas?

I also get them, but its more like a muscle spasm.  I think that you have muscle spasms because you are relazing tight, or tense muscles.  It's not uncommon when relaxing, especially when you have do nothing but walk or work out all day long.

Try meditating at times when you have better control of your mind.  It is harder to stay focused after a long day.  I tried the other day to meditate after staying up later than normal.  The invading thoughts and images were fierce, and my whole body jumped.  But something interesting, on one occasion when I caught hold of the invaders, the voices went from internal, to external, and even changed in texture.  It went from the normal texture of natural thought process, to hearing a women's voice whisper in my ear.  But anyway, to answer your question, keep taming your mind, and meditate rested, this should help remedy your problem :)
Hope this helps,
Brandon
