Before learning about OBEs, I was into lucid dreamings and just curious to find out what was going on when you fall asleep...  I was practicing relaxation at the same time.  Then, I heard the "mind awake body asleep" thing, so I just tried that: to let my body fall asleep while keeping my mind busy.  Luckily, I did not know any of the steps of the OBE process before trying it and was happy to find out that my experience matched others descriptions...

First OBE,

I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to try to induce an OBE.  I think I used various visualizations to try to bring on vibrations (floating, climbing down ladder, etc.) - but the one I know for sure I used that had worked before to bring on vibrational state was that I imagined myself sinking in several steps until I was laying on the floor.  Then I imagined myself rising back up.  I repeated this a few times.  Sometimes when I do this I really *feel* like I'm moving, i.e. I feel an internal movement sensation.  Other times I feel like I'm just trying to conjur up the feeling of internal movement.  This time I felt the internal movement.

Eventually I fell asleep and awoke later (whether 1 minute or 1 hour I couldn't tell you) to the sensation of being spun upside down.  I'll try to describe this feeling more - imagine that you are floating horizontally and your body were to instantly spin upside down as if it were on a spindle - that's what I felt.  After the spin I was on all fours beside the far side of the bed (my wife's side, not mine) - and I knew I was "out".  My wife was muttering a little, and moving around (not sure if it was real or imagined) and so my initial thoughts were that I didn't want to disturb her or wake her up.

I stood up and decided to go through the wall, out onto our deck.  I went through the wall and remembered a description of the feeling I had read earlier that day - that it felt like going through wet cardboard, and I thought to myself, "hmm.  I guess it does".  Once out on the deck I began flying away, only I don't remember trying to do this it just happened.  And the deck, although mostly the same as our "real deck" had planters with flowers around the edges which in reality aren't there.  Almost as soon as I flew over the deck railing I was back in my body and awake.

Although I wasn't that lucid and the experience didn't last long, it was very interesting in that it validated the experience, like "ah, yup - if you do all of this stuff you do eventually get out of your body!" [:)]

First fully conscious OBE  -

I was watching tv one afternoon, it was spring the sky was blue and there was puffy clouds. I thought how peacefull it looked. I turned the tv off and slipped into the sleep.

I had been used to vibrations and sensations of floating out or in my body for awhile, but had never heard of OBEs only in the cases of people who had actually died for a time.

A few minutes into sleep the dream I was dreaming faded away as vibes began, very faintly at first, but stronger and stronger. I knew I would have to force myself awake, and I was ticked off because I was having a nice cosy sleep.

I just thought about the garden, it had looked great a few minutes before and I absent mindedly wished I was out there, instead of sitting here with the vibes. In an instant I was there in the garden looking back at the room I was sitting in alseep. There was no 'travel' I was just there instantly. I looked to my right, I saw the grass, some plants that were still green and flowerless over near the neighbour's fence, I saw the houses of red brick close by. I looked back at the window and noticed the forsythia bush was missing which normally overhung it slightly. I had this terrible feeling of oh bonk I shouldn't be here, this is not right. That all happened in a few seconds, panic set in because I felt like I was breaking some kind of law. I flew this time back towards the window, before I got there I was back inside my body, with the vibrations still throbbing in my head. I forced myself awake. It was so conscious and so real that I was sure it happened.

Here is my first:

I started feeling really strong vibrations through my body and I could tell that my astral body was trying to separate and I heard a really loud ringing noise that kept getting worse.  I was really scared of what it might be like so I tried waking myself up to avoid projecting but I couldn't cause I was paralyzed.  I couldn't see anything it was all black then my body started vibrating really fast and I knew that I was separating but trying to stop it.

Once I knew that I was separated I still couldn't see but the only thing I could move was my left arm and I was able to feel my face with my astral hand which felt electrically charged, then I started floating up slowly with intense vibrations but I didn't want to so I grabbed onto the railing on my bed and which stopped me.  I could tell that I had floated a little above my body.  I was paralyzed and couldn't move anything except my left arm that was holding onto the rail, I then tried to open my eyes and it seemed I could only open my left eye but I could see perfectly clear through it.

I was staring at the ceiling which looked perfectly clear and in detail (I have bad eyesight).  I tried to turn around and look at my body but couldn't.  I still couldn't move at all so I panicked and started thinking of my body and waking up so I woke up right away but it was probably because I was so scared.  It was really scary when the split was happening and when I started floating up but I just wish I could have moved more.

I thought I had fell off my bed, when I got up-I couldnt move well-I felt like I was drugged or heavy-than I thought-I must be having a stroke! I walked (sort of) to the end of the hallway in my house and felt something pulling me by the throat! A few minutes later I woke up only to find I had never been out of bed at all!!!! Scarey!![;)]

I've read many peoples descriptions of their first OBE's and A/P's...however they always seem to skip over the first, most vital (imho) part of the experience...right before and when it happened. They always seem to pour right into "I was standing/floating/hovering..."

Please, everyone share with everyone else your feelings, emotions, and ect. of your first and initial experience in the world beyond your body.

A basic guideline could be what were you doing when it happened, were you meditating? were you trying to enter an OBE(A/P)? or was it all unplanned? What were you thinking about, what did you think when you noticed it was happening? What let you know you were experiencing? What was the first thing you saw? Did you just jump right into the middle of a scene? Or did you start off with a simple light beyond your closed eyelids? Be as descriptive as you can about those few brief moments before you began your first journey.

I'm just trying to gain some general knowledge of other peoples experiences as well as learn a little bit about the people here. Although I'm sure you've all told this story before, please humor me, it'll make my life much easier [8)] (Especially since I'm browsing this at work while my computer at home is currently AWOL and my time is very brief)[:o)]
