Well, my first question is, what the heck are they used for? I mean yea i understand to attain an OBE, you must reach a certain frequency and all that junk, but what exactly does it do? And another thing, how can i use them to attain an OBE? One last favor...post some links your favorites so i can download them =]

Basically, your brainwaves are in different frequency states that correspond to the different levels of consciousness, varying from fully awake (beta) to awake but relaxed (alpha) to trance-like (theta) and deep non-dreaming sleep (delta). What research had found out was that by listening to a slightly varying sound in each ear there was a phantom beat (binaural beat) produced, like a vibration, and that vibration could be used to guide your brainwaves into a particular state more easily, depending on which frequency was used.  This phantom beat produced a hemispheric synchronization between the two hemispheres of the brain (hemi-sync).  Binaural beats are used in many applications ranging from meditation music to even OBEs.  My own research found that about 7 Hertz was the optimum frequency for inducing an OBE.  I don't know what many of the commercial Cd's use as a frequency, but that's what I use in my own music files when I embed brainwaves in them.

Binarual beats  uses patterns of sound to create simultaneously identical wave forms in both hemispheres.  Separate sound pulses are sent to each ear, but each on a different frequency. Both sides of your brain must act in unison in order to hear the third signal, which is the difference between the two signals in each year. For example: If you hear a signal in your left ear which is 125 mhz, and in your right ear is 100 hz, the signal that your whole brain will generate is 25 hz. It has to produce the third signal in order to hear the two signals at the same time. It is never an actual sound, but an electrical signal that can only be created by both hemispheres acting and working together. Depending on what state of consciousness you wish to acheive will determine what types of binaural beats to listen to.

Here's breakdown of the waves and what they do:

Gamma brainwaves (100 - 38 Hz) were detected later than the other brainwaves, less is known about them so far. They have been seen in states of peak performance (both physical and mental), high focus and concentration and during mystic and transzendental experiences, but also with anxiety, schizophrenia and hyperactivity. A lot of research is currently being done on gamma brainwaves in the 40 Hz range during meditation. One of the characteristics of gamma waves is a synchronisation of activity over wide areas of the brain.

Beta (38 - 15 Hz) are the brainwaves of our "normal" waking consciousness, of our outward attenion, of logical, conscious and analytical thinking. High frequency beta ("splayed beta") is seen with restlessness, stress, anxiety, panic

Alpha brainwaves (14 - 8 Hz) are seen when we are in a relaxed state, daydreaming or visualizing. We need alpha waves as the bridge to the lower frequencies ot the subconscious (theta), if we want to remember the content of our dreams or our meditation, or if we want to retrieve information from our subconscious. For this reason alpha is especially important in combination with other brainwaves.

Theta (7 - 4 Hz) represents the subconscious. We see theta during dream sleep (REM sleep), meditation, during peak experiences and creative states. In theta we find unconscious or suppressed parts of our psyche as well as our creativity and spirituality. As long as we only produce theta brainwaves, their content will stay inaccessible to our waking mind. We need alpha to bridge the gap between theta and beta brainwaves to consciously experience or remember theta content

Delta brainwaves (3 - 0,5 Hz) are the brainwaves of the lowest frequency and represent the unconscious. If we only produce delta we will find us in dreamless deep sleep, but we also see delta in various combinations with other brainwaves. They may then represent intuition, curiosity, a kind of radar, hunches or a "feeling

Hope this helps!!
