Because you dreamed about having an AP means that you are close.  You have such a strong desire that even your subconcious has thoughts of projecting.  Though this is a sign that you are in the right frame of mind, it doesn't mean that you are close.
I have been trying to AP for 4 years now, and have come across many different sensations.  First off, a couple years after practicing to have an AP I began having lucid dreams.  I had never experience a LD in my life, so I knew I must have been doing something right.  But there were a few steps that I needed to discover.  First of all, I hear many people talk of laying down and attempting to project.  Because you are new to this, I strongly disagree.  I recommend sitting up in your bed.  Legs straight, but back against your head board, and probably a pillow supporting your head.  So basically your body is at a 90 degree angle with head support.  Here's what happened for me at that stage.
After a while of mind relaxation I would begin to drift off to sleep.  However, sitting up allows you to stay MORE focuses on your physical body.  You will notice as you fall asleep it will be normal, nothing new.  You will forget your excersize and drift into dream world.  But then, suddenly, you will pull out of dream world and again remember your practice session.  You will concentrate on what you were doing, and then shortly after you will again drift into sleep.  But again, you will recognize this, and pull yourself out of it.  This is natural, it will come no matter what.  But there is no set time frame.
It's not hard to pull yourself back into the real world after dreaming.  Sitting up will make it even easier.  The key is to stay interested.  Often after a few times of entering the dream world and then becoming concious again you will say "I'm so tired, tonight I will just go to sleep".  Then you will lay down and just go to bed.  The most difficult part is enduring.  It is much easier said then done.  You will understand.
Basically all there is to AP is staying aware as your body falls asleep.  That's all it is.  But that is the hardest thing you will ever do.  It's natural for the mind to drift into another world every time it loses conciousness.  What is unnatural is for you to remain aware as this happens.  Trust me, you will understand.  For now, just work on pulling yourself out of the dream world and back to reality throughout the night.  This is easier done in the morning because your mind is rested and not so animate about going back to sleep... but your body is still quite aware of being shut down.  Eventually, you will be able to stay aware instead of having to become aware over and over, and then you will find projection simply the next step.  It sounds easy, but practice apon practice is the only way to succeed, because it is difficult.
You hear many people talk of how easy it is.  In fact, it is the most difficult thing you will ever do.  If accomplished, nothing else in your life will be impossible.  It will be easy by comparison.  But at the same time, there is no ability that is givin to one person that is not given to everyone... so no matter what, it is absolutely possible.  Difficult in never impossible!  Always try for that next step!

Hey guys...

I have been studying/trying Astral Projection for about 1.5 years now. So, i'm not new to it or anything... but I wanted to ask your advice on a problem i'm having..

Every time I try to Astral Project... I fall asleep!! Even when I try it in the morning, when I have just woke up! I can get to the awake/asleep line usually, but I always end up falling asleep and waking up, angry at myself the next morning.

A few months ago, I had a dream, in which my Dad was in it. I said to my Dad "Do you realise we're Astral Projecting right now?" and then I went outside and jumped into the air, flying over some fields. It was amazing, but it was just a dream. It shows I must have been close though, because my subconscious made me dream it. Thats the closest I have got to Astral Projecting.

So, guys... I don't know what to do next - any help?

Thanks in advance - much appreciated :)
