Title: Was this an astral projection? Need help
Post by: Dan4487 on September 19, 2013, 08:08:17
I've been trying to astral project for 3 weeks.

At one point last night I remember myself falling asleep, but I was in some kind of trance and wasn't sure if this was a dream or not. Then I heard these extremely loud crashing noises but told myself not to panic. I felt myself in the air above my bed and I felt my body twist sideways as if to lay on my stomach. It was as if my body felt intertwined with another body. At first all I could see was blackness, but then gradually my vision started to brighten and I suddenly saw my laptop in my room which I always leave by the bed. I got excited and thought I had an OBE. Then I thought of my body, returned and noticed that I couldn't move. I stayed calm and then after a little while I could move my leg. Then I had a false awakening. I dreamed that I quickly wrote down the experience on my notepad, but then later I actually woke up for real and was disappointed because the whole thing must have been a dream.

My question is what type of experience was this? Was it a lucid dream? Does it sound like I'm getting close to having an OBE? At the time the sensations were very strong. The feeling of floating, the loud noises, the inability to move... but I was thinking it can't have been an obe because when I saw my room it was slightly bright and not dark like it should have been at 3 am in the morning. I'm very confused. If I do ever astral project, how will I know if it was real or if I just dreamed about it?

You sound like you were successful. Had you carried on floating up you'd of been far enough away from your body and gained clarity to do as you please.
It reminded me of my early days. Everything you typed was a replica of the typical exit.
The paralysis, I never had, I guess I stayed out too long and got snatched back. I was around 4 at the time.
Congratulations are in order. Next time get further away, It feels better when you can see but this sorts itself out with distance. 40 feet is more than enough. Less than 7 and you'll feel constrained too much, just ignore this and proceed.

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to stay out longer but I remember reading in Robert Bruce's book to not stay out for longer than 10 seconds otherwise you'll forget everything. I still don't understand why I had the false awakening after.

I also remember suddenly getting extremely hot just before the floating feeling. It was very unusual. My room is always cold.

The hot feeling is a tactile hallucination.
It can be present or not and usually is something minor. The false awakening sounds like you had plenty more energy to stay out longer.
The instant you start to feel a tugging, refresh your memory on everything you did and slowly wake up. You should remember all of it. I always pushed boundaries and stayed out as long as I could. The memories at times were broken but mostly  good.
