Title: Was this real?
Post by: Bynx on December 03, 2005, 14:03:57
Do you think this was an OBE or a dream?

Last night before I went to sleep, I told myself that since it was my birthday tomorrow (which is now today) I should have an OBE for a birthday present to myself. Then I fell asleep.
Sometime in the night, I woke up. Since I remembered reading that a good time to try to have an OBE was in the night when you wake up, I tried. I had the idea to start "rocking" back and forth like I was on a viking ship ride at an amusement park. After about 30 seconds of that, I started shaking all over and then suddenly I felt like I was floating and weightless. Thinking it worked, but thinking that was too easy, I rolled over, falling out of bed. Wondering if it worked, I sat up and looked at my bed. I was in it, sleeping! Excited, I tried to go to my sister's room. I started trying to walk through the wall to my sister's room, when I suddenly "woke up".
The only problem was that when I woke up, I was dreaming that I woke up. (of course, I didn't know that until I REALLY woke up) In my dream, I was REALLY excited, and I wrote it all down and then went on here and told you all about it. Then I woke up for real, and now I'm wondering if it was all a dream.
There are 2 possibilities, I think. One is that I really did have an OBE (It did FEEL real, not that I know what it feels like) and then I fell asleep and dreamed, or that it was all a dream.
Tell me what you think. Is this something that usually happens?
It's a good thing I can always remember my dreams, or I would have forgotten this all anyway. ^_^

first off, happy b-day!

second, lol, you are the 100,000 person to ask that question. the real answer is there IS NO DIFFERENCE. The only difference between a OBE and a dream is your level of AWARENESS, ie lucidity.

What happened to you was simple. You went to sleep, and became lucid. You then went through what sounds like the vibrational stage, or a lesser version of it, and ended up in the 3d-darkness. you realized that your body was asleep while your mind was still there, ready to go. so you left your body. the shock of actually experiencing this caused you to "wake up".

but you didnt really wake up, you had what we call a "false awakening". VERY common for beginners. Basically your mind is ready to wake up while your body is still asleep. These can get really annoying.

so the officical answer is yes it was an OBE. What more could you ask for in a "real" obe? if it felt real, it was!

keep up the practice and GL!

Hey Bynx ,

Congrats on that experience.. that was an OBE for sure.  I've had many experiences like yours and especially when you wake up from the OBE but you havent "really" woken up yet..  those false awakenings really can be confusing.. after a while you learn to test yourself each time you wake up and try to figure out if you are actually awake or what.    Remember that and next time you can extend your OBEs even if you keep "waking up" over and over but not "really" waking up , you can just try to think a certain way to keep yourself from having so many false awakenings and continue to just explore or do whatever you wanted to do while OBE.  One thing that helps me from waking up while OBE is to try to stop moving and stare at something real hard.  Try to take in everything about that object.. focus on how it looks.. the color , the shape and pretty soon you should feel that you are just a little more aware in your OBE state and maybe even the "pulling " or tugging sensations of the "about to wake up" feeling will subside.

Good luck , sorry for all the ""'s  but if you dont like em

Thank you for your replies, sorry about being the "100,000th person to ask that" but I was just excited.
Part of the reason I didn't know if it was real was because I was surprised how easy it was. That's so cool though! I'll just try to remember to figure out if I'm really awake or not next time I "wake up".
That's so cool though, that I really did it. ^_^ That really WAS a good birthday present. Although it would have been better if I would've done something besides try to see my sister...

Congrats!  And it really is easy once you really reach the vibrational state. When I first did it, I thought that it would be really hard to separate. But once the vibrations came I just floated up without any difficulties! It really is surprising how easy it is.  And it first it was real freaky because I couldn't control myself. I was swirling around my room, through my walls, and couldn't move! O.O;; Then I got the hang of it.  Yesterday night was a real fun experience for me. ^-^ I was flying around my block back and forth.

Happy birthday and keep on practicing! ^_^
