What do you know about soul groups and soul mates?

I know I've read a book or two that talked about soul groups, but I don't recall which ones they were.  Anyway, I want to know more about soul groups and soul mates. 

Is it true that we have groups in the spirit world? 
Is it true that we incarnate with members of our soul group?  Is that what a soul mate is - a member from your soul group? 
Is that why people feel like they've always known their soul mate forever or feel a connection with them that they can't explain?
Do our soul mates or members of our soul group look similar to us?  That could explain why some couples look similar.
Does the soul group have a purpose?
Does each soul groups have a higher self or oversoul that is over the group?

Sure, usually a group gets together with a goal in mind for the physical, or to help each other along the spiritual path in a more direct manner. Members of this group can come to the physical with you or each other, or stay in the astral or other as a form of higher support like a spirit guide.

Think of the physical like a class room and each class room has a teacher(higher being) your group can be the other students where you can help each other like lab partners or solo it alone. But this is a strange class, students graduate when they are ready. If they take the class (a life lesson) and fail, they take it again and again until they get it. Some may take the class thousands of times others could get it in the first go. Sure they can stick around for a while but sooner or later they have to move up. You could have gotten together with a few like minded souls and decided to help each other out on a life lesson and its quite possible. Though a group is not fixed you could have a member that leaves your group and finds another just because they become a different being on a different course, or they graduated far ahead of you and decided not to wait around or couldn't wait around. At the same time you could be going it solo because you choose to for the time being or because you are in transition from one group to another.

-Is it true that we incarnate with members of our soul group?
Answered above in the first sentence...

-Is that what a soul mate is - a member from your soul group?
Could be but there are a wide variety of definitions of a soulmate. I would like to think that a soulmate is something/someone far deeper.

-Is that why people feel like they've always known their soul mate forever or feel a connection with them that they can't explain?
The feeling of knowing someone happens through reincarnations the soul easily recognizes another soul, there for you will recognize old friends and even enemies through previous incarnations. It is that I know you from somewhere the feeling... could be good where you were friends in a past life.. or could be bad you could have been enemies. A soulmate is similar a strong good connection. A member of the group can fall into this but also so can someone that is not because you had previous reincarnation where they left an impact.

-Do our soul mates or members of our soul group look similar to us?  That could explain why some couples look similar.
Maybe but they don't have to look the same either, they could be anyone any where with an entirely different ethnicity.. I'd think previous reincarnations of yourself would look more similar though that's just a bit of opinion.

-Does the soul group have a purpose?
Kinda explain in the first answer for a unified goal, or to help each other along the spiritual course. There is actually an example where someone had an Obe/Ap and they asked a spirit guide about other beings like aliens or those of none human consciousness and a part of the answer was that there are some others that are here as group and work as a group to help raise human consciousness.

Possibly and even then maybe not.
Depending on who's material you read, some do talk about higher beings like guardian angels that usually help lower groups of consciousness.

If there's one major thing I've learned about the non-physical throughout the last few years, it's this:  Our physical reality notions don't exist beyond the confines of this one particular reality.

What I mean is that those little idiosyncrasies which make us human don't apply non-physically.  How we organize our lives, how we like to label things, rationalize things... they don't exist within consciousness as a whole.  It's simply our means of trying to create order within our own minds.  Stuff like spirit groups... spirit families... they're silly notions.  Consciousness isn't split up as neatly and concise as that.  Consciousness is consciousness.  That's all.

Trying to sub categorize consciousness is just the human attempt or organize something which isn't able to be organized in such a way.

I dont think there is any hard and fast rule on how and where people reincarnate .  I think some chose to be with others for karma or out of love for that person .
