This can be a very hard problem to deal with, but not impossible. My suggestion is practice concentrating throughout the day, not just want you want to project or meditate. Whenever a stray though enters your mind just let it roll off of you or deal with it, but most importantly do not get frustrated about it. Just remain relaxed and try to keep your mind clear. Like most things the more you practice the better at doing it you will get. If you have a problem with songs getting stuck in your head, and who does not, then turn the music off or switched to classical or talk. I have done this and I find it has really helped. I usually listen to news or instrumental music now as opposed to rock, r&b, etc. Classical music usually has a calming effect which can help you as well.

Good Luck!

Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

I have the exact same problem as you. What works pretty well for me is to use a NEW (New Energy Ways) technique where I imagine a swirling motion in the center of my forehead, right where the third eye chakra is located. I had an overload of energy in my head, which also caused me to have an overload of thoughts, but this cleared a lot of it up.

You can read about Robert Bruce's NEW techniques for free on his website. His techniques have really helped me on many levels.

Incidentally, IIRC (If I recall correctly), the part of the human brain that processes thoughts is right in or around that area. I could be wrong, but I'm quite sure of this.

Hope this helps,

One of my teachers suggested getting a 3 x 5 card and on one side writing a horizontal line. One the other side, a vertical line. It doesn't matter which line goes on which side. By crossing the eyes a little, it is possible to create an image of a + sign in addition to the two lines. When the + sign is stable and both parts seem equally solid (without losing either separate image) the + sign is to be held as long as you can. This seems to help develop concentration and it has an odd way of silencing both thoughts and emotions.

Hi there,

I have the song-stuck-in-head problem all the time.  Here's what I do:

Since my mind is making this happen, I use my mind to fix it.  So, what I do is imagine the band, but put them into a sound-proof booth or imagine them without their instruments or something.  That way, they can't be heard.  It works surprisingly well!

It usually will come back, and then you can either try that again, or just brute-force it out as soon as you start to hear the song again.

I also use the color breathing technique to focus as well..

listen to less music. i remember when i used to have the radio or a cd on all the time, even when they were off, i couldn't stop the songs from playing in my mind. but then my time schedule picked up considerably and i didn't have enough time to listen to music and i realized that when i did have free time, my mind wasn't playing music.

If you can get a hint of vibrations or even a little buzzing, in my experience, concentrating carefully and exclusively on these things makes them stronger. You can sort of use the vibrations as a concentration feedback device, and you get direct obe/energy practice.

Rodentmouse: I used to get repeating songs and thoughts as well. My solution was to go with the flow. I tried any number of ignoring techniques but what finally worked was just simple acknowledgement of the repeating pattern and the letting it run until my brain was so bored with the lack of reponse the song died of its own.
Often the best thing is to do nothing as per several of Trish's posts.

I too have problems with songs being stuck in my head, I'm a DJ, music is one of the most important things in my life so I can't stop listening to it.  Recently i've been trying to use the music to help me project, the beats of the music I hear help me as I climb the rope/steps/ladders etc.  I'm getting some good results.
