This has probably been asked before, but I didn't find previous thread.
Not a technique as such, but total and utter relaxation works for me.

phasing for me when i wake up during the middle of the night... no effort required.
Complete relaxation, and I just kind of 'let go' - kinda hard to explain lol.
Track made with bwgen and binaural beats had a totally surprising effect on me. It relaxes me very fast.
Listening to the high pitched whistle in my head and ...swoOSH
For me, phasing has been the best, most concrete way to an AP, but it can be tricky to do...
I also like Selski's "total & utter relaxation" - for me it's kind of like spinning a roulette wheel. It's much more hit or miss than phasing, but always relaxing and stress relieving. A light F10 can do wonders. Heck, even F3 for 10 minutes is awesome.
Well, most people tend to forget that astral projection occurs when you separate your spirit from your physical body. If you're trying to separate your spirit from your body, why would you focus on your physical body? If you were trying to remove a letter from an envelope would you push down on the envelope while trying to grab the contents and take them out from it? No, the pressure would stop the contents from leaving the envelope and it would be useless to try.
Just read Herme's method of astral projecting, if you can understand it, it is easily the simplest way to leave your body.
"Close ye your eyes from the rays of the Light.
Centre thy soul-force in the place of thine consciousness,
shaking it free from the bonds of the night.
Place in thy mind-place the image thou desireth.
Picture the place thou desireth to see.
Vibrate back and forth with thy power.
Loosen the soul from out of its night.
Fiercely must thou shake with all of thy power
until at last thy soul shall be free."
Here's my translation for that should be easier to understand since it's in modern day English.
"Close your eyes. Concentrate on your consciousness, the blackness of your mind, forget all physical properties, all aches and pains, other annoyances.
Place in your mind an image that you desire to see, concentrate on it, focus.
You should start feeling vibrations soon.
Now, attempt leaving your body, focus all of your power on this, shake with power, until at last you're free from your physical body."
Sorry I kind of just translated all of that together quickly, so it may not sound very good :|
Just try modifying Herme's method to suit something that you think you could achieve, but don't modify it too much as it's a great and easy way to do this, also coming from him it's obvious that this will work and quite simply.
Using affirmations right before I'm about to sleep, have a lucid dream, and then project from there.
affirmations right before I go to sleep seems to work for me.
For me I make an affirmation before I go to sleep... I then relax into an F10 state then fall asleep... this almost always results in me having a lucid dream in which I can then use to raise my awareness to 99%, then away I go.
(note: it is pretty much impossible to raise your awareness to 100% if you phase via a dream... you can be 99% but that missing 1% makes a BIG difference.. that's why full-on conscious phasing/projection is the holy grail).
Haven't done that as yet, but 99% is still pretty awesome I have found.
The alarm clock method works well if you have trouble entering trance. The main aim I think in projection is primarily stilling the mind. It seems to me to be the greatest obstacle because it is the first step of a long journey.
I'd agree with affirmations before sleep and during the day. So the idea of projecting is well implemented in the subconscious.
Good luck anyhoo.

The alarm clock method. w/ affirmations said forcefully before both times I go to sleep.
