This happened to my son.
He was sleeping, then he got scared because he thought there was a man in the room, he had sleep paralysis and couldn't move, when he realized that the man was HIMSELF and he was looking as his body in the bed.

You answered your own question. It's a type of OBE, or false awakening. It has happened to me where I thought I was awake only to wake up (for real) later. It's one of the creepiest types of OBE in my opinion.

Yeah, false awakenings are trippy. I "walked" into the hallway one night to get something out of the study. My hand kept going through the doorknob- it wasn't until then that I realized I was out of my body! Kind of nuts.

Thanks for the input of what it was, I'll have to do some research on false awakenings now :-)
