Wizard, it sounds like you're on the right track.  Just remember that your mind, in addition to being passively aware of the body, must also be relaxed.

Many people think that the KEY to an OBE is to have a completely relaxed body.  This isn't always true.  The KEY is to have a relaxed mind.  Getting your mind in the right state is more important than getting your body in the right state.

It's all about disassociating yourself from the situation without getting lost in your own swirling thoughts and emotions.  A lot tougher than it seems!

Usually what I do is spent the first 10 minutes or so relaxing my body.  In this stage, it's OK to focus on your physical body.

After that, I spent 10 minutes or so relaxing my mind.  Clearing my thoughts, things like that.

From there, you have to shift your focus away from your egotistical mind and body, and focus on something non-physical.  Some people like to watch the imagery that begins to form in your field of vision.  Others like to focus on an internal sound, like a ringing in the ears.  The point is to just focus on these internal things while maintaining a passive awareness and not falling asleep.

However, usually if you do fall asleep, you will either find yourself able to OBE later that night, or you will have incredible dream recall.  This is because you spent the 20+ minutes conditioning yourself before going to sleep to focus on your inner senses.

Yes as Jeff said you are on the right track.

Can you go mind awake body asleep when ever you want easily? If so, keep practicing man. You will get there!

eh? you sound like a true canadian. Wizard, have you tried the interupted sleep technique? I can have obe's by waking in the middle of the night even thought i can get so close from the awake state but just can't do it, however i can project after falling asleep in the middle of the night-mabe this gets around some mind awake thing.

I wake up to go pee in the middle of the night, sometimes twice. No matter what kind of OBE I attempt, sleep is always a winner. I sometimes wake up at 4:00am and stay up for 0.5 hours then go to sleep again, like I've heard suggested, but again, just go to sleep.

I think I'm getting close these days. Been at it for two years. I can put my whole body asleep so I don't even feel it anymore. And then, with a clear mind, stay focused only on being aware. At that point I get hypnogogic imagery. I just stay with it, waiting. Nothing yet, but I'm focusing on ultra relaxation. I believe that the body needs to be so relaxed in order for the subtle astral body to disengage from the physical body and NO attention on the physical body is the trick. I feel so close. Any helpful ideas?
