Title: When do you perform the exit technique?
Post by: dust8879 on May 11, 2014, 12:07:59
I am a bit confused about when you should try to separate from your body. Last night I was deep into the hypnogogic state, and I was watching a scene play out for what felt like 5 minutes. Then I quickly remembered to stay aware, and I must have been on the brink of sleep because then I briefly saw my room, felt tingling and heard this wind/whooshing sound in my ears. But it stopped because I got excited. Later on I tried to imagine climbing a rope/stairs or flying for nearly 3 hours, but nothing happened.

I am wondering is it possible that I am trying to separate too early? How deep into the hypnogogic state do you need to be before attempting an exit method? Is an exit method necessary? When I think back to all the times I've come close to projecting and felt vibrations, I wasn't actually doing much. I just kept rousing myself and stopping the sleep taking over and then my body felt like it was melting. I'm just not sure when I should be imagining myself moving upwards. Is it before or during the tingling?

Any reply would be much appreciated...

Have a read, it should make perfect sense with your question on when while using visualisations.

When you get to the whooshing wind sound your hearing.  Try to increase the sound, don't get too excited or it will throw you back.  If you increase the sound you will eventually be shot out of your body.

Thank you, Szaxx. That post was extremely helpful. I have a better idea now of what to do.

I'll do that. I usually get excited and then the sound disappears. I think I've been using the exit technique far too early. I need to be relaxed right to the brink of sleep. I thought that imagining myself rising causes the tingling, but in fact it's the deep relaxation while staying aware that causes it. The exit technique is probably what I do at the end.

Solve your excitedness issue first.
It will stop you each and every time.
