When I was younger...

When I was a child, between about the ages of five, and twelve give or take, I used to do something really strange, but I thought everyone could do it too.  I would be laying in my bed, half asleep, and would have to get up for soem reason, maybe to use the bathroom for instance.  I would ofter get up, and walk across the room only to realize that I had not moved, and I would snap back.  Sometimes this would happen several times in a row before I would finally get up and go the the bathroom.  I just stopped doing it as I grew up, and it became something that faded into the back of my mind, but I always remembered.
When I was an older teen I mentioned this to my mother one day saying something like, "Of course you must have done that to when you were young, I sure we all did it."  She said no, we do not all do it.  She thought it was strange that I was able to do such a thing.
I had one last experiance of this kind when I was eighteen. I was taking care of a baby over night, and heard him crying, while I was laying in my bed.  I got up and walked over to where he was sleeping in my room.  I snapped back before I made it all the way across the room, and then got up to get him, thinking, "I'll be darned.  I did it again."  I have never done it since that time seven years ago.
When I was a child, I never scared myself, 'stepping out' like that.  It just seemed normal to me.  The worst that ever happened was that more that once I became fustrated because I had to get up, and my phyical body just would not do that.

Looking back on all of this, years later, I wish I could still do that now, because I think that if I could, then it might became an easy jumping off place to project from.  I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on why I did that as a child without knowing what I was doing, and why I can't still do it?
Thanks, Chantal :-D

Thats exactly how my spontaneous OBEs happened when I was a child!  I'd get up, start going towards the bathroom or to the kitchen for a drink, get about half way across my room and become stuck... like glued to my position, then snap back, wake up and realize I had never left the bed!  It wasn't until I was 14, when i had the experience where it happened as described above, but I finally looked backwards and saw myself still in the bed, and realized that I was out-of-body.

That would freak me out at 14!  :-o

Wow.  It's neat to hear that others have had things like that happen too.  I guess I'm not crazy, lol.  I do wonder though, why children seem to be the ones to have experances like this.

Magickist

Well generally children don't have much going on in there mind most of the time, and at night the only thing that they really focus on, if anything is sleeping. They probably subconsciously go through a phasing process or just become deeply relaxed, but pay no attention to it. However if they were to actually need to get up to do something during that time they would actually move their astral body instead of physical due to their current state of relaxation.

That does make a good amount of sense.  Back in those days, I had so little to worry about.  Now there's all the stuff that people need to think about day to day.  Combine that with an anxiety problem, and me being someone with trouble concentrating in the first place... hmmm I see why I don't just 'step out' anymore.

Magickist

Just try my technique, it should work for you, or anyone at that. If you can't find it I'll hunt it down and post it here.

Would you mind posting it here.  I cannot seem to find it.
Thanks.

This was happening to me as well when I was a child, at night when I needed to go to the toilet, I would get up, go to the toilet and as I was walking back... I found myself lying on the bed, frustrated that I must get up again :x
I also was having sleep paralysis really often, at first I was scared of it, then I kinda started to like the state, I could control the energy flowing through my body... now as I know it can be used for OBE, of course I dont have it anymore :|
Flow...

i read over the page several times.  It looks preety neat, and easy.  I want to try it tonight in bed.  I think I will unless I am really tired.

My apologies for posting in such an old topic, but since this was my topic in the first place, I saw no point in starting a new thread, lol.  Anyway, I cannot believe this.  Yesterday morning, it happened again.  After Seven years, I somehow managed to randomly do it again, right out of nowhere. :-o
I woke up in the morning, but did not have to get out of bed for any reason.  I had nowhere to be that morning, and I was extremely tired.  I began to doze off back to sleep again.  I was aware that I wanted to get up and start my day though, because it was rather late in the morning.  I got up, thinking that I would likely be more awake when I had been up for a bit, and walked to my door... or so I thought, lol.  I very quickly realized I was laying in my bed, still under the covers and had never moved at all. :?  Oddly, I could even recall completely throwing off the covers and sitting for a second on the edge of the bed, before standing up.
I wandered, do you folks here think there might be a connection between this sudden reoccurace of this weird 'phasing' type thing, and the fact that I have been practicing projection techniques lately? :?

Yes, I used to be afraid of the dark when I was younger so I'd hide under the bed covers and reach out for my glass of water on the side : ]

I'd grab it then in my hurry to pull it under the covers with me I'd realise I hadn't moved at all. This happened very frequently when I stayed with my cousins in Yorkshire. I did have one terrifying experience at home though, under the same circumstances. This time I wanted to confront my fear of darkness and lonely places so I decided to sleep in the room which scared me the most (lived in a big house back then) I hid myself under the covers and I felt someone poking me through the fabric repeatedly. It scared the life out of me and I ran out the room screaming. : ]

So what's the verdict Blazewind? Is this your long sought after OBE or something different?

Also, do any of you ever have latent memories that seem to pop up when you read certain posts. I just feel as though I've experienced this before. I have no idea whether the memory is real or whether I can just visualise the sensation so well in my mind that it seems like memory. The same is true for astral sex. I could swear that I have done it before.

Blazewind

I really don't know what happened.  I'm not sure if it was a real OBE or not.  That same thing used to happen when I was young, and I had thought I had outgrown it when I was finished my childhood.  When I somehow did it again the other night, it was a complete surprise.  In any case, because it felt like I had simply gottten out of bed like I do every morning and started walking At the time, I had no idea that anything odd had happened.  I realize now that if it really was anything at all, then because I did it completely by accident, I was entirely unprepared and caught off gaurd.

From the description of the experience that was posted it Does Appear that it Was an OBE. The account seems similiar to reports from people who have their very first OBE and are unsure what is happening to them.
The connection of your experience and recent OBE induction practices does seem rather obvious. Your (subconscious) intention to project was finally acted upon during sleep and resulted in the (confusing) OBE.

Ah, I have one of those stories, but I'm not fully sure as it was a long, long time ago--around 8 years old. Could either be a very real dream or an OBE.

This story is simple and quick ... I fell asleep on the couch in the living room. I woke up, OBE'd or dreamed this, realized where I was and went to my bedroom where I layed down to go back to sleep. In the morning I woke up on the couch!

mjolnir_knight

Something similar to that happened when I was a child.  When I was little, every night I would get up in the middle of the night to go into my mom's room just because.  I would get up out of bed, begin walking down the hallway, but this is where something strange happened.  Something would swoop down and kill me.  This would happen three to five times before I actually got up.  This would happen every single night.  I am wondering if I was actually APing and my house was haunted, or if I was just dreaming.

Thanks Grey for your advice on this.  It's great to think that you could be right and that I must really have been monentarily out of body.  If that is really the case, then I have come to the conclusion that phasing out like that is very confussing and might be hard to learn proper control of.  I had always thought that If I ever did anything like that, I would have no doubt at all, that it had worked.

The Present Moment

One possibility is that young kids (<6 years old) are in a theta brainwave state on a permanent basis, which for adults is the meditation/sleep range.
