Is it possible to lay there, awake, not moving for hours and still not project?

Say for like an hour or two. With no methods, techniques or tricks, would our physical body just naturally fall asleep?

CFTraveler

Yes, that is the 'asleep' behind 'mind awake, body asleep'.  If you stay there long enough you'll fall asleep.  Or project unconsciously (click out.)

Unless you have insomnia ...Everyone is different and the time it takes to fall "asleep" varies as well.
I wandered slowly there
I saw a field where a thousand corpses lie
Angels sang the hymn of the end
About monsters which they fought
Over our world

hey ghob. i think it's an interesting question! when i lie on my back i basically won't fall asleep at all :). but after 1 hour lieing awake i sometimes actually feel kind of exhausted and want to sleep. i give in usually. i imagine going beyond that and having the devotion to just keep awake for several hours makes the difference in succeeding :)

opinions?

I'm like you mo, if I lay on my back I never fall asleep or go into SP until  I finally move consciously or unconsciously.  I have purposely tried to project from that position and have failed every time, no matter what I do.  What is interesting is that if I use binural beat recordings I can go to sleep in that position or often into a light trance no problem.  What is funny is that in the typical sitting meditation position I can easily go into a light trance and/or almost sleep (I nod off and on after only 30 minutes while meditating in the deep morning hours).  I also agree that devotion to keeping alert in a constant vigil makes the difference in success.  Setting your intent to "I'm going to project tonight" is key.  Ya really gotta want it!

I'm alot like the rest of the poster's here. I cant sleep on my back and thus it is the best for me to astral project this way. Usually I feel the separation and notice my legs floating upwards first and then lastly my head before I separate. I can sometimes project on my side but its quite rare.

Why would insomnia affect it? Does insomnia mean that you have to move about or does it basically mean you can't get to sleep? Surely it should help AP?

The question was posed "Is it possible to lay there, awake, not moving for hours and still not project?". Insomnia means i have problems sleeping. Specifically i have chronic insomnia. And yes I do think it does help my APing
