Hello Pilotbugs!
I have the same reason for wanting to AP as you, to have fun! Ive always wanted to fly and be able to travel anywhere. Also I do hope to gain "something" valuabe from the experiences as well. And lastly, I wanted to visit the Moon, the Bermuda Triangle [:P], and just space in general.

The bermuda triangle huh?  I've flown over it and there wasn't much to see.  We didn't even get the courtesy of having whatever it is there spin our compass's...not even a little.  I don't have anywhere in particular that I want to visit, not yet anyway.  I just want to fly.  The part in the book where RB describes flying in a thunderstorm sounds especially interesting.

I want to learn to have OOBEs to explore reality and have fun while doing it! I want to learn if this experience holds an answer about life and death, and the possibility of finding a new perspective on living. I want to enjoy myself and I also want to gain some wisdom.

Oh, I just thought there might be 'some' kind of wierd or "paranormal" type thing there. Ohwell, one less thing for me to do (though I probably will still go [:)])!

For me there were many reasons...the first was definitly to have fun :p also sometimes i have so much work in school and stuff and my parents getting mad at me and my whole life gets all confusing and i just want a way to escape for a bit. Its nice cause i dont have to worry about those things when I'm APing.. Of course flying is another thing==my whole life ive wanted to fly and thats definitly one way to do it ^_^ also the whole exploring part.. i want to know whats out there! plus going to new planets and such too would be awesome[:P] lol. Plus overall it is just exciting to realize there is more to life than what we know in the physical... solving the mysteries of the universe one OBE at a time! [:D]

Were shooting stars fall,
There is never dull,
Watch and you shall see,
There is something there,
For all to learn,
Nothing gained has no beauty,
But is it duty"

I once read on this forum that going into the astral is like having a whole other life to live, there is your daily life and then your astral, the reason i do it is becuase i am able to do things that i could never do in the phyical. There is just something about the freedom.

Aping for me has been a very spiritual experience. It has opened my eyes to the world around me and shown me that what you see around is not true reality and that there are worlds within worlds. It has also shown me what to expect when i pass on away from this physical plane so i no longer fear death....but i still fear which way i will die and the pain that will temporarily be involved. But just remember, we are eternal and the pain is an illusion.

I can also make a nice analogy for you that i think almost everyone can relate to......APing is like taking the red pill in the movie The Matrix. It shows you the truth and free's your mind. [:D]

Whenever I AP and am not aware, I'm always searching for someone. Same goes for many semi-lucid dreams. If I happened to become completly lucid in either the dream or AP I continue to search. I call out continuously but never get an answer. It's like I'm the only one there; the only one anywhere. I guess I AP for company. I've even found my self calling out to God or Jesus, "Hey! You there?! Hellloooo!!!!! <echos>"
The silence can be unnerving.

Not all of my AP's are like that, only about half. The rest I'm trying to fly and can't seem to get above the telephone lines, I keep getting tangled, what a pain. If for once I were to NOT get tangled I would fly above the clouds. I haven't seen blue skys or stars in my aps or dreams in over a year.
"Doohicky" "thingie", "thingamajigger" and "what'sit" are all commonly accepted engineering terms these days. Impress your boss and use more than one in a sentance... Major brownie points!

I actually wasn't looking to OBE. I kind of tripped over it by finding an online book and reading it. The next thing I know, I had an OBE.  I spent several days questioning a lot of things. I don't think I was quite ready for the transformation from "conservative non-believer" to "Astral Traveler". I OBE now because I realized that I have missed so much by being so closed minded that I have a lot of catching up to do.  I am still fascinated by the experience. I haven't tried to attempt much yet.

My sole reason for wanting to do it myslef is to have fun.  Be an astral otter as RB says.  The thought of flying and exploring is extremely fascinating to me.
Of course if along the way, any deeper meaning and purpose come from it, all the better.

The question is, why not to want to AP??? First you can see the closest dimention to your physical dimention, you can fly and have many special skills there, you can get to any place you want in any speed andexplore the whole univers in seconds! I like AP cuz I want to see other living forms and creatures that the majority of ppl don't believe or know about them that exist all in the Astral dimention.
It's a great experience! Why not to want? you are even not scared when you are there [:D]

I'm happy someone made this topic.

It really makes you think "Why?" once someone asks, doesnt it? :P Most people I come across just want to for fun, not really having any major reasons. Its a "cool thing to do." It makes some people feel they are special/have special "powers". I admit, the reason I looked into astral project is because I thought it was the coolest, most interesting thing in the world. :P! Yet, that was also when I was much younger. Now that the interest has grown with me, I have some more "powerful" reasons to try and project.

First off, I want to know if it is REALLY possible. I dont have any proof untill I try it myself, and it works. The thought of me being able to LEAVE my body (not just imagine, but actually leave) is something that would change a lot in my belief system. It would give me something more concrete to search off of/back ideas on.
That brings me to the second reason: knowledge. I believe astral projecting is a great way to access a wealth of information (akashic records, anyone?)Since we are here with no real handbook, I would like to live my life with a better idea of what else there is beyond my five senses. :)

I have heard stories of people traveling out of body, and some of the things they have gone through just amaze me. If we can really do something like this, then before we were able to, we were basically blind to a LARGE part of our existance. I dont want to be blind.

It also seems a bit of fun. :)
