hyperventilation and OBE question...

I believe this is a slight variation on the 'American dream'.

I have tried this before. I hyperventilated for about a minute and then exhaled all the air out of my lungs. Then one of my friends choked me up against the wall. I passed out and it was a phenomenal experience. I didn't leave my body or anything, but for about ten seconds everything I have ever known ceased to exist, and I was just in a pool of abstract awareness. It's hard to describe, and I had no idea how long I was gone for, because time lost all meaning.
Without getting into it, I was also under the effects of a certain drug at the time, so that might have contributed to it..

I personally do not think that there is anything remotely spiritual about American dreams, it's just a means of inducing yourself to faint and seeing what happens. But it certainly isn't a myth either.

When just searching on google about this I found an interesting newsgroup post about Holotropic Breathwork.

Just thought I'd share.

I was talking with my girlfriend after reading some of "NEW Energy Ways."  She then told me that back when she was in high school everyone starting doing this weird thing.  One person would hyperventilate and then after a while someone else would hit them in the sternum.

She said she saw one of her friend do it and after being hit, fall to the ground.  My girlfriend was very scared thinking, "What have we done?!"  Her friend then awoke and said she was floating above them the whole time.

High school peer pressure or true OBE?  What does everyone think about this?
