Why the small distortions?

Why is there slight distortions in Etheral projections? when I read about people who have projected
and are still in their bedrooms possibly looking at themselves, they often report small
alterations in there room or house such as something that normally is there which is not there or maybe something which is bigger than it normally is or maybe even something strange and bizarre
lurking on their bed.

It would seem to me logically if these really are projections being within the regular world then all should be as it is seen as the same when not projecting. I find this very puzzling.

Why do these small distortions to such common surroundings appear?

They are not supposed to be projections in the regular world, they're supposed to be projections into an energetic equivalent to the regular world.
Remember that when you're out of body you're not using your eyes to see or your ears to hear.  If you're close to your physical body there can be feedback associated with projection, and even if your sensory perception is cut off from your body (which it never really is) you're perceiving everything in a room with your energy body as it interacts with the energy of whatever solid object is there.  So there is no North, no South, E or W, and time doesn't work the same either- so your energy, which is what is doing the perceiving, may be interacting with whatever happened yesterday and in some cases what is happening tomorrow.  At the same time.  So all this information has to be downloaded into our poor li'l human brains, who have to put all this simultaneous information in a sequential manner (especially if you're the 'logical' type).  So it's a wonder that we still know which way is up when we think of it in threedimensional physical terms.
   :-o    Yeah!

i always wondered that too..thanks!

should we think of it like that one painting? Where its a weird sky, and hand watches are "melted" and draped over tree branches and such.

So you mean one isnt actually in there real bedroom in spirit but a minds re-creation of it?

So do you mean the astral conciousness gets kind of confused and overwhelmed when they are in the etheral realm dealing with energies so that is why perceptions of real time places can get distorted though confusion with energies and such?

No, an energetic equivalent isn't the mind's recreation- it means that a wall (for example) is made of molecules that are made of atoms dancing which are made of waves collapsing into particles, and that is energy.  We perceive the form the energy produces in the waking state with our eyes and ears and hands, but when we're out of body our energy bodies perceive the energetic content that is close enough for them to interact with.  It's like we're radar detecting the  energy that is matter.  Something like that.

Not confused and overwhelmed- the astral energy body, which is also a detecting mechanism, inputs multiple inputs into our physical brain, which can't process the type of information that is coming at it, mainly because it's used to processing things as we detect them with our senses, and regroups it into a linear experience, and it sometimes reshuffles it to make it make sense.
Frankly, we also do this when we're awake, we just don't notice we do.

You mean surrealism?  Interestingly, surrealism (as in the works of Salvador Dali and Antonio Gaudi) is an artistic movement which expressed reality as derived from dreams-so there is a kind of connection- however it's not what I was talking about.
