have you ever projected into darkness?

Of my two OBEs (or maybe one, I'm not sure about the other one -- too dreamlike) the one I remember vividly started off as a dream.  I was in a dark church, and there were candles.  The details were vague.  Then the dream stopped and the candles and church literally melted away.  I remember the light of the candles kind of streaking away....

I was then suspended in darkness as pure consciousness and I began to fly/dance, and I had the most wonderful feeling.  I thought, "I used to do this all the time!  I can't believe I forgot.  I have to start doing this again."  I never saw anything other than darkness.  And then I woke up.

Do you think this is an OBE?  Has anyone had similar experiences?

That sounds like a wonderful experience James! I have projected into darkness, but I don't think it was anything like you described. I didn't like the darkness. Not one bit. I have seen things, and been places in the astral that seemed so familiar, but I can never remember why that is. Maybe you once used to dance like that, but forgot  :-)

Mydral

Yes, twice so far:

I tried to go into the Astral from a lucid dream and started flying upwards to do so.... I ended up in darkness both times and I woke up right after.
It wasn't like the experience you described since I didn't like it and couldn't move properly or do anything either.

Has happened to me a few times. I had a very interesting experience a few weeks ago, when I found myself spinning around really fast in complete darkness. It went on for a long time, and I found it quite scary, until I realised someone was holding my hand. I never saw the entity that was holding my hand, but it definitely comforted me.

I projected into the "RTZ" once and noticed that outside my bedroom window was nothing but a black void. Normally there's a busy road there. I guess it's just "empty space" waiting for something to be created.

yes...

I was once in what I thought was the "Cave of the Prophet", I think Elijah, and the walls were of rough hewn stone, blackened by ages of soot from the hundreds of candles that gave off unreflected light.

The Prophet came up behind me and said "The Principalities of the Sky are vying for your Soul", and he pointed upward.  Suddenly the Cave had no ceiling and we were looking up into the Dark Night Sky, and there were many Dragons circling and looping in aerial combat.

This was when I was so much younger, and I was perhaps more morally and spiritually conflicted than I am now.

Your dream is similar, but without the conflict, and the hint of evil that was alluded to in my dream, fortunately for you.

But in more recent years I have had more entirely positive experiences, though not of Darkness but of Light.  I've been trying various Mantras and Prayers during my Dreams and Spiritual Excursions, and in some cases I have been caught up in Vortexes of Light that have carried me upward.

In most every case I feel as though I lose some time.  I am carried upward toward greater and greater light, or forward into greater and greater light, and when it seems as though I am about to Reach and Arrive somewhere, then I am suddenly comeing down, or out the other side.

I once had a Vision in which I was with a Great Guru and he began his Story with these words, "What I am about to tell you must fill your attention completely and you must comprehend it in every word, every letter, even every dot, period, and comma, or I will have it so that your don't remember a single thing!"   I came out of that Experience, and I was aware of a Glow, of having been in a Great Spiritual Presence, but I had no memory at all.  But it puzzled me.  Such a strong feeling without the slightest recall... it made no sense.  And so I kept at it, plying my mind for a trace of memory, and then it was like a Compromise was made with that Great Guru, and he allowed me to at least remember the preamble... his warning.

to be fair, just when that Guru began his Speech, his Story, of which I can't remember a single word, there had started all kinds of interruptions -- people were talking and laughing load, TV sets and radios were blaring.

Well, it is easy enough to see the lesson here.  One must quiet all of the distractions before one can pay total attention, and it is only by a totality of attention that one can bring anything back from the Highest Spiritual Realm at all.

Well, no sense being so absolute.  One time when I came Out of the Light, with a lapse in memory, I found myself chanting a Prayer that I had not been chanting a moment earlier, as though a New Prayer had been given to me, that I suddenly found myself repeating.

and though we cannot remember any details of being in the Light, one is inclined to suppose that just Being in the Light, remembered in detail or not, still must have a beneficial effect.

do you remember the light or what it looked like at all?  is it like the light of the NDE?

Visionary Light is of two qualities -- there is the intense White Light that pours out of Pure Spiritual Space, and then there is the more diffuse Light of the Vortexes that gets brighter as one goes higher.

I had a Dream of the Bright White Light:

White Light Paramahansa Dream

....I levitated up and folded into a lotus postion and intoned an AUM.  the air seemed to turn Violet (pinkish purple) and the air rippled and shimmered in waves before about 20 feet in front of me the very fabric of Space tore open and there was the Pure White Light

Becoming Lucid, I asked the driver to pull over so I could get out.  I noticed that I was not wearing shoes, which, of course, plainly means that I was on Holy Ground, and so I looked around to see what was so special.  I was on the outskirts of a City, near the rail yards and gravel pits.  Just meters away was an old rusty iron railway overpass.  But it was all exquisitely beautiful and  so I had no doubt about it being Holy Ground.

In keeping with the sacredness of the moment I decided to Meditate.  I intoned an AUM and arose up off the ground to hover a few meters off the ground in quiet serenity.  And, true to the Guru's words, not seconds transpired when the air shimmered in waves and ripples and turned a wonderful shade of violet-pink.  I was in a state of curious expectancy about it all when just then the space some 10 meters in front of me simply tore open and out poured the Pure White Light, like magnesium burning before a chromium mirror, bright and real.

The substance of the Light quickly took up a form – a Paramahansa Swan... not a living bird but a very ornate statuesque representation of one.  It was large – more than a meter high and wide.  And it was amazingly beautiful – in the brightest White Light but still one could discern the textures of the shapes and detail.  But there was little time for amazement when the Swan shot across the distance between us and penetrated into my forehead.  And then a new one formed up to replace it, and it shot over into my forehead as well... and again and again and again, each time more quickly, but each time the ornate and elaborate Paramahansa Swan became simpler, more streamlined.  As they formed up more rapidly, they became plainer and plainer.  Finally they were coming at a rate of 8 or 10 per second, and the birds were mere 'Vees', like as in the way young children draw birds flying in the sky, as two joining lines tapering outward.  And they were all flying into my forehead.

When I awoke, the sensations acquired in the Dream persisted.  My Agna Chakra was still pulsating with the feeling of this Spiritual Energy, no longer perceptible as Light but tangible as a pressure sensation.  The sensation by proximity also energized my Crown Chakra as well as my throat and heart chakras.

My experiences in total darkenss were enlightening.  They were at times during meditation/trance where I had lost sense of my ego and I failed to carry my human perceptions with me.  A single point of consciousness wonderfully content.  I could perceive thoughts and I understood there were other entities there with me.  I got the feeling that most were basking in the "nothingness" also, but then again it could have been the fact that I wasn't perceiving things in the same way the other entities could have been.
