Waking up early without an alarm

Most AP techniques I find encourage pre-sleep as a primer for astral projection.  Pre-sleep eliminates the need for hours of deep meditation, shamanic drumming, etc, because the body is in a very relaxed state upon waking up.

In order to gain presleep, one can either take a late afternoon nap or set an alarm for 4 am (or later, depending on when you go to bed).  There are problems with both these methods.  If you work during the day and want to spend time with your family in the evening, a late afternoon nap would interfere.  If you co-sleep with someone who would murder you if you set an alarm for 4 every morning, this really isn't an option.  Furthermore, if you have an infant in your room, an early morning alarm is going to cause some drama.

I fit into all of the above.  All the guides I have found simply assume that you can set an alarm for 4 am and not have any problems.  I feel that this is something that needs to be addressed, and that's what I'm going to do.

How to Wake Up Without an Alarm

I have two methods so far.  The autosuggestion method and the water method.

#1.  Autosuggestion Method

Kind of self explanatory.  As you fall asleep, give yourself the affirmation that you are going to wake up at 4 am.  Do it with conviction.  Believe it. 

If you are susceptible to autosuggestion, and I'm not, you should wake up at 4.  Bingo!

#2.  Water Method

This one is a little tricky, but it works if done properly.

Have you ever woken up early in the morning to use the bathroom?  That's what we're going for.  Drink one or two large glasses of water before bed.  Of course the amount you need changes depending on how hydrated you are.  Too much water and you will be running to the bathroom every five minutes before you can fall asleep, too little and you won't wake up at all.  Find a balance that works for you.

I woke up around 4 am almost every night in high school because I tried to stay hydrated for running cross country.

Funnily, my body tends to wake up on its own at about the same times every night. I usually first wake up around 4-4:30. Once I can get get settled, it's a battle to stay asleep until 7:30-8ish. After that, I can't sleep any longer regardless of still being tired or not. For me it seems like I better results projecting(purposely at least) if I attempt it when I first lay down. I tried the 4am thing on Summerlander's recommendation a few nights ago, and I didn't feel properly prepped for an AP like I would have hours before.

I haven't needed an alarm clock in years (unless I'm in a weird time zone or hungover)

Here's another method: As you're going to sleep, imagine standing at a well and put a digital clock that shows the time you want to wake up in the bucket. Then lower the bucket down and watch the time descend into the darkness and fall asleep.

When i set my alarm(halarm with arabic accent :D) to ring in 6:30 I wake up in 6:27 or 28.If I turn it on for 4:30 in the morning for a early train,I wake up 2 or 3 minutes before again.Thats what I call internal clock!maybe even quartz stabilized heh
