Salt and water is a purifing agent. When spells are cast most people put salt in a circle to keep out negative energies while casting the spell. Salt is also used to cleanse crystals. People will use salt to enclose their home so no negativity can enter the home.

What are some of the other things? Are we talking candles, incense, and herbs or are we talking flour, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla extract?
One of my in laws, are continuously borrowing salt, sugar...ect.
In this town peoples, are very deep in voodoo, hoodoo or rootworkings.
I want to know if she is working voodoo, with items from my relative house-what kind, of spells she could possiblely be conguering and what is the self defend ritual one must perform, to to rid oneself of it ?
