How can you tell someone that they're dreaming if they are awake?

Hi All,
Funny thing happened to me couple or few weeks back.  I believe it was Feb 8, 2006 between the time of 2:45 a.m to 3:30 a.m.  I remember that I was so tired the night before because I didn't get enough sleep.  On feb 8, 2006, I must've slept before 2:00 a.m but it didn't feel like I fell asleep.  All I remember is waking up before or after 3:00 a.m.  I looked around the room and I am surprised that my eyesight is great.  I can spot and see anything in the room, I can see everything so clear eventhough the lights were off.  I was lying in bed with my head facing on the side. I turned my head facing the ceiling and to my suprised.  I saw an image of a lady.  Not just any lady but I seen my girl.  I knew it wasn't her but it looked like her.  She have the face of my girl but didn't have a skin.  She was like a cloud of smoke, kinda like clear/water color but have the shape of a woman, wearing clothes and I can see clearly that it was my girl.  My real girl was lying beside and I watched this cloud of smoke or whatever it is get up from where my girl was lying.  I watched her and see her get up.  I was looking at the ceiling and I see her on top of me getting up and before her foot hit the floor, she just disappeared.  She was there for good 5-7 seconds and I felt my heart beating really fast.  I was ready to panic before her foot hit the floor because I could not believe what I was seeing.  She must've seen me get startled because I was shocked and she looked at me before she disappear.  Soon as she disappear, I turned my head to the right and woke my girl up because I thought she was dead.  I thought it was her soul leaving her body that I seen.  I shook my girl asking if she's alive or ok and she answered me that everything is good.  I got up and move on the other side of the bed so I can see what's going on in the room.  I woke up in the morning and told my girl about it.  I don't know how to explain what I seen because most people said that I was dreaming.  How can you call it a dream if I was awake? Some says that it's a nightmare but I know it's not because I get nightmares all the time and whatever I seen or experienced is not a nightmare.  Anybody understand the way I described things?  I wonder what I seen and please don't tell me that I was dreaming because I was awake at that time.  Also, me and my girl would wake up around 3:00 a.m in the morning.  Sometimes we can't sleep and sometimes we can get back to sleep easy but we're always awake or would wake up around 3:00 a.m.

I forgot to mentioned that I was gonna grab this smoke/clear/see though lady but I chickened out because I don't know what it will do if it didn't like me grabbing it's hand.  But as soon as I seen her get up, I was thinking of grabbing her hand but the more I see it, the more my heart would beat fast.
