I wouldnt call it a dimension. Dimensions generally have their space in a grid shape, but astral is chaotically organized if you get far enough into it. It is connected to physical reality in a measurable way, and it could be what the physicists write about, but its not a dimension.

According to Quantum Metaphysics (QM), the physical world is a limited aspect of total reality that has untold dimensions.  In other words, in our physical world we perceive only four dimensions (3 space + 1 time) of the true multi-dimensional reality, which we consider "spiritual".  In physics terminology, we use the term "dimension" in a well-defined manner, one physical specific aspect  = one dimension.  I doubt that we can carry this approach into the higher-dimensional spheres.  Assuming that "Everything" is ultimately united into One (corresponding to QM) then such concepts as love, joy, freedom, honesty, etc. must have a place within this whole.  Or how would we categorize the ever new "dimensions" of artistic expression?  It is a question of semantics.  

We can get around this ambiguity by adopting a more general definition of "dimension".  We can say that a dimension is one specific aspect of a larger whole.  This is how the term is used in QM.  It works for the dimensions of physics as well for any other "dimension" in life.  In this sense, The Astral plane is definitely a higher dimension of reality.  Whether it will ever be expressed in physics terms is another question.  I personally doubt that there will ever be a Unified Theory of Everything in physics terms, because it would mean that it is possible to cast "God" into a mathematical equation.

There are something like 7 or 11 'main' dimensions and within these main dimensions there are 7 sub dimensions, the Astral is a sub dimension of our physical 'main' dimension.

When we die we dont go to the Astral, depending on how aware we are we either reincarnate into this dimension, descend to a lower dimension or ascend to a higher dimension - eventually we will reach the highest dimension and enter into union with the source.

The 7 sub dimensions of our physical main dimension are reachable through meditation &/or projection and only reachable whilst we are in this dimension. If we were to ascend after death to a higher main dimension then we would have a new set of 7 sub dimensions to explore.

Im sure there are people here who would disagree with me though.

So be it. I've visited several dozen dimensions in dreamstates. I know the diff tween the astral and a different dimension.

I've also seen portals open up and seen things and people on the other side. I have visited alternate selves in which two different souls were felt inside the body. I have felt energy shifts in which I have had selves from other dimensions inhabiting my body.

similar/alien  have you felt these two at the same time, I can describe it only as WOW!

Allright thank u very much...that's an answer I'm looking for...but it also brings another question in my mind. Is the physical the lowest dimension? You say this phyisical dimension has 7 subdimensions (for example the Astral) en the next main dimension has also got 7 subdimensions and so on.
So when u die...you descend or ascend to a higher main dimension.

But is this the lowest dimension?

Hi all,

I'm new on this forum, I'm also new with the Astral, and doing OBE.
The only thing I'm familiar with is the hyperdimensional universe.
The Superstring theory says there are 2 universes, (in the beginning they were one, but they collapsed due to inconsistenty) Now there is a 6 dimensional universe and a 4 dimensional universe (the one we live in)
Well, as we all understand, everything..every theory, every law of nature gets more clear if you unify everything. And that's how the Superstring theory iscmade. But now my question...
   Is the Astral a Higher dimension, like a higher dimension as said in the Superstring Theory, or is it a dimensions nothing to do with it.
I actually hope that there is a unification between the "spiritual world" and the "phsysical world"
