This is just a stupid idea I've been thinking about,
What would happen if you stopped time (like Hiro from Heroes can stop time) then did some pushups or some other exercise, would you get really strong and fit?

ismusa

Stopping time has nothing to do with how fit your body gets because even if you did stop time and the rest of the world or the rest of the universe did stop then you'd exist in your own time and this wouldn't make you any stronger.  It could give you enough time to get as strong as you like in a certain time frame before you "Unstop" time again.  But I think you can't stop time because time doesn't really exist it's just our perception there's only the here and the now.

If you had the power to stop time, would you worry about what you look like?

Beero

if you stopped time and did a year's worth of stuff for example would you grow a year older physically?

ps if you could stop time to work out you would have no excuse for being out of shape

Stookie

Bart and Milhouse did that on The Simpsons. The best thing they did was beat up on Oscar De La Hoya while he was frozen.

There was a show on when I was a kid about a girl whose dad was an alien and she could freeze time like that. Boy was it stupid.

Apparently sitcoms have been working on it for years.

In order to stop time you must be traveling at light speed, I think that's exercise enough.  The faster you move through space, the slower you move through time.
opinions are like kittens, just give 'em away

And then you'll have near infinite mass.  So if that's why you work out, it'll make you happy.  But if you're trying to lose weight, well..... not so much.
:-P  :-D

QuoteAnd then you'll have near infinite mass.

and to accelerate to that speed you'll need infinite energy.

And to gain the ability to get infinite amount of energy we will need infinite amount of time.

If time could be quantified into a particle or wave which that is the only way to think about time as in an event or sequence of events and you could remove yourself from the wave and stay in the particle.
Everything does that, though, if you think about it.
A person who goes to a gym and works out is doing that but in the opposite direction.
The person in the gym is speeding up his time and gathering up all the future resources and building them up and making them stronger while the outside world is in the wave.  When the person stops working out, he gets tired because identifying with the outer world slows you down.

just think we are just a small piece of creation, millons of lightyears away there could be another planet just like that or some greater conciousness with geater power. so if you did make time stop i guess it would make the earth stop only since we are the only ones that believe in the concept of time and if you stop the earth it would stop spining then wed be screwed :P

AmbientSound

Time is motion, so to stop time completely, you would have to stop yourself also. If you meant sticking yourself in a time envelope with nothing else in it, doing the exercise, and then coming out of the time envelope, then a year would pass for you, but not a single nanosecond would pass for the rest of the Universe.

IMO time is the measurement of change in spacetime.  So if we could stop time the earth not moving would be the least of our worries.  (This is a fun thought experiment).  But then again, we'd be frozen along with it, so we prob. wouldn't notice.  In fact, it may have happened already, but we never would know.
But relativity being what it is (if it is anything, but that's another post), instead of stopping time you could accelerate yourself, which essentially would be the same thing.  Either way, only you'd know.  Maybe.

If you want to get fit, you could just learn lucid dreaming... and eat lots of junk foood in your sleep, and eat healthy food during the day.
