I do not see how I could ever be 100% permanently happy while I still exist on the physical. As long as there are people who are going hungry, being tortured, killed, raped, fighting wars, homeless, well you get the idea. I guess the only way for me to even consider being permanently happy would be to start with world peace. The best I can hope for is having moments of happiness and the rest of the time striving for contentment.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

This may sound superficial but hey. Driving in a cop free zone, making love to beautiful woman, lying on the beach during a sunny day, conversing with others about important subjects like politics, spirituality, etc.Travelling aong the stars in a starship. I could name many others but this will do for now.

Certainly I cannot imagine what true bliss would be, I would think that its both everything/nothing at once.

I like to pick a moment in time, there may be nothing special about the moment it may be simple like walking to check the mail and the sun is shining on your face, the birds are chirping, and I can say to myself; at this particular moment I am happy, you don't consider external influences like the pile of bills on the bench or the kids you left fighting inside as you came out to get the mail, you just take the moment.....even sitting here now, typing on the computer, there is nothing special about the moment, but on reflection I am happy at this moment. Like smelling a flower or biting into a crunchy apple, at that moment excluding external influences it is possible to be happy......maybe its a bit simplistic, but if you have enough 'moments' you can find that you are happy quite alot of the time, but I don't think that its truly possible to be 100% happy all the time.......
C'est la vie.

Probably, at the level of spiritual evolution on earth, we are hardly permanently 100% happy or in perpetual blissful. However, every unhappiness we experience is a sign post to show us for greater happiness.

Imagine a planet filled with spiritually evolved people who are truely happy every moment of days.

I think, finding ways to achieve greater happiness than yesterday is a truely enjoyable way of life!!

It seems that I got one interesting answer...Living at the "moments" of time....sounds like a star-trek story where people never grow old in a planet.

I don't think happyness is that hard to obtain. Happyness is a feeling inside of us that has been there since the day we were born.
If we can experience pain all of our lives, we can also experience happyness all of our lives.

The problem  with our society today is, is that we are taught to disregard our instincts/feelings and only evaluate things with our rational mind. We think too much, we worry too much, we have doubts and fears inside of our head. These things block the ever existing feeling of happyness inside us. Just take away your doubts, fears and worries. These things don't support us on our journey in life but they are existing in every one of us.

Maybe you could say that it is alright to worry when a friend of yours is lying in the hospital but even then, the worries don't add up to anything but unhappyness. Maybe that someone could name me one worry, or fear or doubt that really has something constructive about it? I can't think of one.. Only the fears that have to do with the preservation of our own lifes can be constructive, but we luckily don't all experience them too often.

I've experienced that taking away the unconstructive things in your mind opens up the door to happyness. It will take perseverance but the results are worthwhile. When I started "on my quest of cleaning my mind" I know I had found the way and experienced a long moment of pure bliss, love and ecstacy. It was unlike anything I had ever experience before. After that the road was hard but now I'm almost there. I experience pure happyness almost every day now and I'm not doing anything but thinking positive and being connected with my feelings, my heart.

It's all about the fast source of love inside you. Of course it's hard to see others suffer but don't let their pain be your pain. Just try to be there for these people and spread the love in this world.

Surely doing it contineously 20 hours a day everyday for the rest of your life would make you sexually TIRED!![:P]

I partialy agree with Tony M. Fear is very destructiv and causes people to make mestakes, BUT it is also a neccecery thing in life. It allows you to concetrate on certain things that need to be attended to.
When attacked you do not think about anything but defending yourself and survivel, after the situation is over the real unnececery fear kicks in. Then after everything is done you start thinking "o man I could have died" or something like that. That part of fear needs to be eliminated, fear as a whole is needed for survivle.

Going back to the original post I think there is nothing that I could do 20h a day. At the very basis of the human spirit there is a desire to make things better. That is why the new generation rebels and tryes to make a better living for themselvs. There will never be a thing so good that it could not be made better. I have read storys of people who after surviving a near death experiance said that they have been in the presenc of God and felt his love, a feeling beyond any other, but they chose to return to Earth becouse Life is not about achiving a perfect existance and remaining in it. Life is about making every day a new begining of a better world.

BUT the most important thing to remember is that we need to enjoy what we do. You cant just live and unhappy all day thinking that your life could be better. Do what you can to improve your life and enjoy yourself. I have learned that even a walk on a cold, cloudy day can bring happines.
Now is the moment of power!!!

Permanently happy? I would have to say: experiencing a certain blissful exchange of feelings (the one mentioned in my signature).  [:)] Also, developing this feeling to higher and higher states.

When you examine yourself, you see that you have the need to be happy. It seems that it is the fundamental need of conscious existence.
So,
What is happiness? What would make you happy? Permanently happy? Is there anything that you can imagine doing or experiencing 20 hours everyday for 1,000,000 years or throughout your natural life that will make you truly happy?

Your interesting opinions are always welcome :-)
