Title: Back Pain During Meditation
Post by: M4RT1N on February 24, 2013, 11:07:07
Every time I meditate my back start to hurt after a few minutes. So now I sit next to my bed but my back still hurts after about 5-12 minutes so I have to stop meditating.

They say I need to relax completely and keep my back perfectly straight, but how can I completely relax if I have to support my back ?

Also what is the best meditation technique for me ? I want to learn to concentrate better so I can stay awake while trying to AP, right now I'm concentrating on myself breathing.

Does your back hurt before you Meditate?

I Meditate to relieve my back aches.

If your answer is no, then you need to find a more comfortable position to meditate.

When I meditate, which normally leads to Phasing, (same difference I find), I always go through a brief progressive relaxation.

If my back is hurting at the time, I will spend more of my time focusing on releasing those muscles or attempting to "repair" that area of discomfort.

Check out this excellent sticky here on Meditation, it handles most of the problems that could occur during the process of it.

They always say you need to keep your back perfectly straight, so how can you relax without your back falling to the ground ? you have to use your muscles to keep your back up so how do you relax but keep your back straight  :?

I guess there's my problem, I never listen to "they".

I meditate how I want , where I want and and when I want. Which is basically anyway, all different areas and at all different times.

"They" have always been a great beginners guide, but from there I develop what works best for me!  :-)

Haha! Nice!

The importance of meditation is not the position you sit in. Get yourself comfortable, try other ways of laying or sit in a comfortable supportive chair. There's not only one way to do it. :)

He says "when you cross your legs and clasp your fingers energy circuit is formed and gives more stability"

If I'm laying down I don't think I would get that cosmic energy as easily.

Believing you wouldn't get cosmic energy easily can be more of a hurdle than the way you sit to optimize energy circuits. Or something...

I've meditated before without learning the terminology or what was optimal... I've APed from lying on my side. A funny time, after trying on my back I gave up, laid down on my side to fall asleep, and popped right out effortlessly.

I am not saying that I'm some pro or anything. I'm really not. But speaking from my personal experiences and what I have read from others, there is not just one way to do things. That's one reason why I'm not a huge fan of how to videos unless they're watched with the perspective that this is a how to for a very specific way. Just not the only way. Sorry, I'm rambling.

So how do you meditate ? I can't think of any better way to meditate, If I would lay down in my bed to meditate then I would just fall asleep like I do when trying to AP and the way I meditate would be exactly the same as my AP technique (concentrating on my breathing) so meditating would just be me trying to AP, but what If I want to meditate before I try to AP ?

I close my eyes in any position and relax, release, let, go, hmm, come to think of it that's the same way I Phase.  :-D

It really is that easy!

All this other stuff he says is just "candy coating" to get you to focus on what you are doing.

I believe that all these different sitting positions and finger pinching, etc. is done to get you as far away from your usual physical routine as possible. It is to make this practice a unique thing, a sacred thing in many cases. It is to create total focus on your desired result.

When many people begin to meditate they are normally told to use a Mantra as well. But you will find that after many Meditation sessions, that Mantra is no longer needed, because now you know it was just there as a focus tool and you don't need it anymore. You have already learned to shut out the outside and focus within.
