Becoming profoundly content with ones self

I saw this phrase "Becoming profoundly content with ones self" in one of the books discussing living in the "now".

It is about acceptance of where you are and what you are at all times. I want to achieve it, but I don't quite understand it.

Isn't it true that acceptance is an excuse to under achieve? If I am completely accepting of myself in all circumstances I can abandon my dreams today.

Another point touched on is the concept of thankfulness. Consider and appreciate where you are, how far you have come, and the pleasures you do have access to. What if I take that all away? I am going to reset your consciousness to having no memory and lock you in perceptionless dimension for eternity. What do you have to be thankful for in this circumstance and should you be profoundly content with the most limited existence imaginable?

Being content seems a lot like giving up...

I can see how being content could lead someone to feeling this way. That is IF you are thinking that being content means you have all you want and have no desire to continue or improve. But what if; you have come to accept yourself completely as you are with all your perfections and all your flaws? What if you have come to terms with how to best use your perfections and your flaws to continue on and achieve even greater? Would not that also be contentment?

Being content not that you have done your best but that your best is yet to come?

Take away my memories and all my perceptions and you might possibly leave in a perfect state of bliss.

Just do what makes you happy. Forget all these philosophies. You cant force to become content if your heart desires exploration and further achievements. Follow your heart :) Those who have no desires to do anything will do just so. And yes, be thankful of the opportunities given to learn in this controlled environment.  I no longer feel trapped here because I have found a way to break the barrier. I do not feel out of place although I understand just how limiting this reality is, however, there is always so much to lean and experience no matter where you are.

I like that, Nameless! This is another way to look at it. For example I feel content in  a way that I think I have found most answers and I understand the basic laws and reasons behind our existence and the multiverse. That gives me great comfort. I can travel beyond with all my awareness and although I have been doing this for 15 year, every time it feels like mind blowing. I love how the excitement never goes away. At this point with my knowledge, I feel that I am content but I am going to have fun and keep experiencing what makes me happy. I also think that my desire to explore new worlds will never diminish, but I dont feel unsatisfied, on the contrary, the thought of discovering more and more new things gives me tremendous joy. This very feeling is what I call to be content. So, it is a matter of perception.

It's funny LightBeam how I used to always want all the answers and I wanted them right now and yesterday if possible. Now, it's the trip I enjoy. I'm still the same ol' me, always will be, eager, asinine, stubborn, stupid, brilliant, you name it. Now I just use those as tools. The only change has really only been one of perception. You're right about the excitement never going away. I like that. Guess we are both rather content.

Interesting outlooks, I can dig them, however, consider this. A lot of the premises here are based on optimistic outcomes: there will be new things to learn, your best is yet to come.

If one cannot know in advance whether or not they will be content, you must also be content with the unknown and even be content with being...discontent. Maybe it is more accurate to say that instead of trying to be content you want to stay in a mind set of unbreakable optimism.
