Both are rather large topics. If you could say a few things about what brings you to meditation and trance work that might help with a place to begin. Also, if you have had any sort of injury such as back problems then you might not benefit much from being told to keep your back absolutely straight. The amount of time you have to practice is important, too. Some techniques require longer sessions than others just to get started. Also, have you started working with NEW? If so, how is that going?

My eventual goal is to just evolve myself spiritually, but I also want to have obes and psychic abilities. I have worked with new, and I feel the energy sensations every time. I can relax myself, but I'm not sure whether I'm in trance, and I can't calm my mind very well. If you can give me any techniques, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here is an effective web site if you would like to have more energy to work with. It helped me: http://www.kundalini-reiki.net

Breathing meditation is often suggested in Buddhism. Different meditation objects are prescribed for different conditions. Too much thinking is helped by working with the breath. It is simple to describe but hard to do. When you are in your usual meditation posture, find the spot where breath sensations are strongest. The tip of the nose and the stomach are common places. If you want to count the breaths at first it is good to start over when you reach ten. The counting helps stabilize the concentration but it can easily become the object, and higher numbers can become a goal. Awareness should be mixed between posture, relaxation, and the breath. At times the percentages can and should change. Each time will be different. Each individual breath is different. When you are done it is good not to get up too quickly.
