Concept of soul mates

I totally agree.  I have seen me meeting my soul mate in my dreams (possibly clairvoyance?), as they have occurred in multiple dreams under the same circumstance.  I am hoping one day to meet this person, only time will tell :)

There has been much confusion over this issue, but IMO the theory about soul mates being two halves of one spirit etc is myth.

I think we have prior connections to certain individuals that have existed before this earth life. Monroe and Moen call this our extended 'astral family', or your 'disk'. We also have long running connections to many others with whom we have formed friendships over many lifetimes.
Sometimes there is an agreement made before hand that several of these individuals might meet up during a lifetime to complete certain tasks and so on.

Sometimes this will be in the form of a physical/emotional relationship.
Of course, in that life time, as soon as you make contact with the other person with whom you planned to meet up with, you will both be aware of a deeper connection, even although you may never have met that person before (in this life). In reality you may have known each other over the course of many lifetimes and formed deep bonds with.

I think that this is where the confusion lies as many theories have arisen among occult circles, trying to explain what's going on.
However, the general consensus now (and consistent with what Monroe and Moen have found), is that gender is a purely physical issue, and individuals frequently change gender every time they reincarnate.
However, as a bonus, by giving us the chance to interact with the world from both a male and female perspective, this results in doubling the learning possibilities available while here on Earth.

I think that much of the mumbo jumbo that has arisen regarding 'soul mates' etc is a result of occultists in the past who tried to attribute mystical reasons behind gender etc but this idea has been questioned in recent years.

Hi All.

Excellent response there from Douglas.

As a teenager I had a 'teacher' who told me this interesting concept....The Higher Self can have multiple incarnations on the world at one time, much like a puppet master can control more than one little performer on the stage.  She said that it could, but not necessarily does, explain the concept of Soul Mates.

In my experience, I have re-connected with a being that I could call my soul mate, as over many many lives we have been all things to each other, student/teacher, mother/son/daughter, husband/wife, friends/enemies, etc, and the list gets longer and longer.  I understand that we are connected through lives by choices, as we have a special relationship that we like to continue in the world.  So for me, the means by which we achieve this is not really important.  The fact that we re-connected a number of years ago in the spiritual realms, and only a few years ago in the World, is enough for me to know.  All the rest of the theories and conjectures are simply things to entertain your restless mind with.[:P]

As for the theory in the first paragraph, I have been told "No your wrong" by many psychic, medium and new-ager types over the past twenty years.  But, each one has responded with Belief-system semantics and not from anything that they have direct experience of for them selves, so the verdict on whether this is a viable observation of a reality is still not conclusive.

Love always.[:)]

How many people actually found their soul mate?

Hi Tyler,

Excellent topic! [:)] I thought that it would be better suited to the spiritual development forum rather than obe discussions though. If you'd rather it be moved somewhere else, please PM me. Thanks.

There is a difference between soul mates and soul twins.
A soul mate is an entity one has spend several incarnations i9n co-operation to learn the life lessons. A soul twin is the other half.
I've personally met two soul mates and my soul twin.

Since souls have no sex it is entirely possible to meet one's soul mate and find he is a she or vice versa. Meeting one doesn't have an implicit meaning on the physical so gener is a non-issue.

interesting, tyler... seems we've been thinking about the same things lately...first karma, and now this.  i was wanting to make a post about soulmates, but i wasn't sure how to go about wording it.

so anyway, how do we know when someone is our soulmate, and when we're just being silly and making a big deal out of someone who isn't really our soulmate?  how do you know when it's just wishful thinking, and when it's the real thing?
is it possible to know who your soulmate is, without even knowing much about them?  like, is it possible to "just know" by something they've said, or done, or something like that?  or is it always something that just kind of develops?  i guess basically what i'm asking is:  what does it feel like when you've met your soulmate?  is it just kind of like "wham!"  or a soft, warm mushy spot in your heart?  heh heh, hope these questions don't seem too silly.  [:I]

There is this girl I know, where when we met for the first time, she asked me whether we'd known each other before from somewhere. She says I feel really familiar.
I wanted very much to be cool and say "Maybe we knew each other from another life", but being the shy person I am, I didn't.
Ever since she said that, I've developed feelings for her. Although over the course of that time, she's got herself a very stable boyfriend.
I'm still good friends with her, and I still love her. [:I]

Are we soulmates?
Heh, I have no idea how you would tell. I keep feeling we are, but it could just as well be wishful thinking... [:P]

The term 'soul mates' is a misnomer, at least as it's used today. A better term for what everyone today thinks is a 'soul mate' is a 'compatible soul'.  You get more than one of those, and they generate deja vu, feelings of love, familiarity, all that. A REAL soul mate is much deeper, and you can still have more than one, but they are far fewer in number for each.

The split soul thing is carried in another eastern come western idea called a 'twin flame'. That's when the """soul""" is split in two and opposing traits are split between them as well. When you meet the other half, it's not complimentary, it's antithesis. So the story goes anyway.

There are a few out there somewhere that I 'feel' and have even dreamt with but not met in the physical. I hope I get the chance to meet them, cuz they are awesome...

Right, there are two theories ...

One dude claims that each soul separates and half goes male half female. Later they have to meet in life, fall in love, become one, ascend to other dimension and then become fit for other spiritual duties.

Sweet theory except every high school philosopher knows that we are all bi sexual beings and capable of being male and female. And sex is a state of mind. But i like his story, and if my soul mate is who i think it is then i'm with her all the way. (that was Kraigs teaching in Modern Magick, they guy also claims that each soul watches over forming fetus and does not join the body until ... listen to this, until the first breath is taken. What happened to that Buddha thing where it takes 49 days for a soul to attach to pineal gland)

But anyway, i always thought that a soul mate is someone who matches concepts of your higher self. Yes? no? maybe?
