Sorry, this might be in the wrong location...

Something I'm confused about....do drugs help ground you, or is it the opposite? I think I heard once that eating food grounds you, is this right? What about ingesting drugs? Isn't kinda the same thing, I mean isn't there some kind of digestion or food energy absorbtion going on for some things? Okay, I'm probably wrong, lol. But then I've heard from people that drugs cloud your mind and hinder altering your state of consiousness. But...then I've heard that drugs like LSD and marijuana can help you alter your state of consciousness and do OBE's...it's all just very confusing and conflicting information, someone help make sense of this!! lol. Uggh. Is it a possibility that BOTH of these things happen, like some sort of weird duality/paradox acting as One?

jalef

this doesdnt sound logical to me. drugs alter your state of consciousness on their own and maybe they sometimes even induce spiritual experiences so i wouldnt consider them to be usefull for grounding...

Food can 'ground' you.  Yes.

On Drugs, it depends on your specific condition.  Is this a medical drug or a 'sporting/lifestyle drug?

Sporting/lifestyle drugs will eventually hinder you even though they might sometimes SEEM to advance you.

drugs are best used for rare, focused and meaningful experiences.
IN this light theyre good and can give a huge amount of insight if you know how to look.
but if you chase the experience and go for the quick exhilleration of them, and do them often without meaning or focused insight then they mess you up completely.
ignore what you read about them all being bad, just make sure you know yourself and be ready for what you might realise.
Coz its like opening a cupboard and having years worth of built up junk spill out if your not totally open to your deepest insecurities.
split your awareness between your heart and head.

gdo

that is not accurate

Recreational drugs are a hindrance.  They are false roads of easy access and convenience, but they are RECREATIONAL.  They serve no other purpose.  Nothing is gained.  They create an illusion and that is all.  There is no real gain in using them

From personal experience, while under the influence of drugs, it may be easier to reach different levels of conciousness and dare i say it definately adds to the experience. But the after effects just dont cut it.

Best to steer clear of drugs all together.
They may be fun while they last but in the long run its definately not worth it. For your mental healths sake.

I'm not planning on taking drugs, I'm just looking for info/opinions.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. Does drinking liquids, like water, 'ground' you?

So, these things that you two are mentioning, could these be the factors that are introducing the "clouded" mind that some people experience when taking mind altering drugs?

And you know they create an 'illusion" how exactly? Why is it an "illusion?" Hmm, interesting stuff, I would like to know more if you would elaborate, because I'm not sure If I understand your posts.

Well i guess it would depend on what drug you take.
I think it basically comes down to brain chemistry.

1) MDMA and amphetamines affect serotonin and dopamine levels.
For the few days after a binge, you get a slump in electrical signals in your brain. So basically your brain isnt working nearly as well as it should be. You get confused, grump, depressed, paranoid and just cant do anything right.
Also, your body is more than likely depleted of its serotonin and dopamine stores. So theres really not much there to make you feel good about anything.
2) You rarely sleep when you take this stuff. Sleep is necessary for your body (and brain) to recover.
3) You dont eat. Your metabolism speeds up and you cant even think about eating coz it makes you sick. And we should all know we need food. Carbohydrates are important for energy and concentration.
4) I dont know all that much about hallucinogens.
Ive had acid once and i used to be a chronic pot head.
But i do know that LSD binds to a certain serotonin receptor. So i guess it would affect your mood much like LSD.
Probly would explain why some people (like myself) hallucinate on E.

So basically, the drugs will affect what naturally sposed to be happening inside your head. Hence, the clouded illusion thing.
What your'e experiencing isnt real. Its manufactured.
You forget what reality is REALLY like.
Your brain starts associating taking drugs with getting a reward. Then what is there in reality that is rewarding?
You'll start getting annoyed with everything instead of getting satisfaction.
Once positive things will now be thought of as negative things.
I remember once, what would usually be a fun nite at home with friends over, turned bad for me because everything i saw, i would immediately have really negative thoughts about. And i mean everything. My sister, all my friends, my dog, my couch.. you name it.
It spiralled into a crazy mental breakdown that i had to work my way out of, which was pretty difficult.
Long story short.
They're bad.

I agree that different drugs will have different effects on different people, but they basically have the opposite effect to grounding.

Often drugs will bring about uncontrolled experiences. The purpose of grounding is to help keep the experience "real" (in a manner of speaking.

As gdo mentioned, food helps to ground you.

Blessings,
James.
