I came across this quote by Adyashanti.  It's something from one of his books, "The End of Your World".

QuoteThe truth of the matter is that most people who say they want awakening don't actually want to awaken. They want their version of awakening. What they actually want is to be really happy in their dream state. And that's okay, if that's as far as they've evolved.

But the real, sincere impulse toward enlightenment is something that goes far beyond the desire to make our dream state better. It is an impulse that is willing to subject itself to whatever is needed in order to wake up.

The authentic impulse toward enlightenment is that internal prayer asking for whatever it is that will bring us to a full awakening, no matter whether it turns out to be wonderful or terrible. It is an impulse that puts no conditions on what we have to go through.
~ Adyashanti

I know a lot of people come here hoping that Astral Projection will lead to some kind of awakening/enlightenment within themselves.
I have my own idea of what he's saying here, but I was wondering what other people's take on it is and how it might relate to your own "quest for awakening".  :)

Just looking to drive discussion.

Adyashanti found what he was focused on and that's what he talks about. i don't think he's all wrong. It's just that he has one perspective of the huge universe that we are a part of.  What is reality to one will seem like  a dream world to another. He talks  about looking for truth, but what if truth is entirely subjective and there is no objective reality and what we find is only the reality that we generate.
Tom Campbell makes a lot more sense to me in this respect. Love and consciousness are two of the primal qualities of the universe. But does that make everything generated from that illusional? I don't think so. I think like a baby grows it's just a starting point of the evolution. The one point has become many and consciousness has diversified. Going back into the past root source is certainly interesting but it is just as much of a dream as anything else. I don't think he has anything over and above what anyone else has who has seriously gone within and studied what is in there. But if you ask a desert Coptic monk about what they've found they will tell you something entirely different. :-)  But I can promise you that search is just as dedicated and focused on the truth.
Buddha whose teachings Adyashanti tends to follow only focused on one problem, one that caused a terrible emotional shock for him. . I think a focus on the Universe would have produced a completely different perception. The intensity of the perception does not always indicate accuracy. So I listen to him and I take what I think is helpful. I don't agree with everything he says. I think that he doesn't really want that. He wants people to think and explore for themselves.

To search for yourself is starting
To search for your family is better
To search for humanity reaches much more
To search for everything in the universe is beginning to awaken.
Once you know what to search for, start at the universe level of thought. It'll make sense eventually.
The big question is what are we searching for?
We unknowingly already have the answer.
To go out we need to be in at the starting point.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.
