persistant gnat

Ok... so since I moved overseas a month ago, a lot of wacky things are happening.  Seeing shadows, balls of energy in various colors and sizes, and grey whispies all the time, lately seeing vaguely human shapes, hearing voices (clearly, but not always the entire sentence), feeling energy, visits at night, sleep paralysis but no AP, hearing my roommate whisper when she is just thinking something and not saying it yet, etc., etc., etc.  My cats are also noticing more activity.  But the strangest thing is that for the past 2 weeks, everywhere I go in this very cold European city (Berlin, home of a lot of rough history), a gnat is there.  At first it was a funny coincidence.  But now it's getting a little weird, and the fact that it is an insect worries me slightly.  As an example, I could sit in my kitchen and have coffee, and there is a gnat in my face.  Then I walk outside in the rain to my class, go all the way in the building, sit down, and there is a gnat in my face.  then I have an appointment alllll the way across town, and as I am talking to him, a gnat is in my face.  then I take the train to a bar to meet someone for a drink, and a gnat is in my drink.  then I go home again: gnat in my face as I watch tv.  it is always right in my face, and it is not because i smell or frequent dirty places.  Most days it shows up 3 times, but often more. it is just strange.  any ideas?

James S

Two thoughts -

One is that Berlin has just a few too many gnats around. :)

The other is that you are being shown an animal totem, and yes, insects are valid animal totems.
If this is the case, a gnat, like a fly, is an indication of the following traits in your life that you need to be mindful of:

Survival
Multifaceted vision
Ability to change waste into valuable assets
Transformation
Adaptation to the harshest environments

These things are possibly being brought to your attention because you either need to embrace a particular trait which is already within you, or you may need to develop that trait.

Kind regards,
James.

I apologize for encouraging the murder of an innocent insect who will only live at most, a couple days, and who does nothing but bite and irritate all the creatures on earth.

I love spiders, protect them, and try to inform people about their usefulness. Should I stop this, as the spiders might hurt the gnats too?

sashamasha

Hmmm.  I'll have to think about these and other gnat-like traits.  All, and none of these, apply.  At least it's a gnat and not a fly... geez.

Tyciol: actually I used to have spiders around me all the time when I was a kid, but I was convinced it was always the same one, and it would come down and, uh, "talk" to me, and I would talk to it.  Spider definitely trumps gnat.

You

Yes, it definitely does. Convenience aside (and the fact that they almost NEVER harm us) in a lot of shaman circles Mother Spider is seen as a very high order creature, whereas if there is some kind of gnat totem I've never once heard of it.

Charlotte's Web was a neat book.

So I decided the gnat was trying to tell me, in addition to the things you listed above, James S, about being persistant and having a sense of humor... and I haven't seen it again.  At least today.

And the persistence paid off.  :)

Crossing my fingers for a gnat-free day tomorrow.

If but we knew the power of our thoughts we would guard them more closely.

ToxicMoon

This was the most humorous post I have read all morning,  I can't help but laugh at that!  A gnat in your drink?  That is persistence!

When I do totem work and get stuck, I sometimes look at predator/prey relationships.  Aren't gnats spider food?

Checked into Spider totem stuff since you have that connection?  I know some people feel Spider is the totem of writers.

Maybe the gnat is your "carrot" to draw you into writing???

This sounds really dumb but . . . Have you ASKED the gnat what it wants?  What the message is?  I make more breakthrough doing dumb stuff than I ever do with enlightened practice.

sashamasha

hey.  that's interesting.  it made me sit up straight but I'm not sure why yet.  spider connection, hmm...

I kill all insects but spiders, I like spiders.

I've rethought my anti-gnatness though. Ever seen Ryogi the Flea on Inu Yasha? He's neat, if he's okay gnats should be good, but spiders still own them.

Better to have a gnat guide then a no guide.

Sigh.  I practice "catch and release" with house insects and rescue drowing earthworms.  I gotta learn to lighten up.

BuddhiHermit

I've heard that sometimes when a psychic channel opens, for some reason, then you often hear a mosquito noise, fairly constantly.

I've come across similar symptoms before in psychics who use "unproven" meditations or exercises. Too much energy goes down one channel, and skews the minds balance.

The question is whether you want to keep these symptoms or not.

To get rid of them, first decide you don't want them, then stop all spiritual exercises. Then find some really good earth/dirt, and run your hands through it while enjoying the relaxing feeling that follows while you discharge the high energy back into the earth.

Peace,
Hermit

Interesting. Everytime I go to sleep (or when it's really quiet) I hear the sound of a nearby mosquito. "It" never comes to sting me and "it" never flies close to me, I only hear "it" fly around somewhere in my room.

Real mosquitos always fly near my ears, which is annoying like hell. I always have to stand up and hunt them down then, otherwise I wouldn't get any sleep.

Heh, maybe the "souls" of the mosquitos came to haunt me :)
I don't do much, and I do it well.

I try to rescue the earthworms, but after you see so many of them crawl into the road in the middle of a rainstorm to get stepped on, you realize that by killing them or just letting them die by not killing them you're doing evolution a service. Evolution is a cruel master, but it's saving for the future.

I may feed an insect to a spider if I can find one, otherwise it dies. Insects are nasty creatures that eat my food. I'm generally not a worm murderer though, unless I'm fishing, because worms provide a valuable service, they make my dirt nicer, and dirt kicks butt. Spiders too, because they eat the other insects and make pretty webs. Most other insects (except bees, I love honey, even though I don't get much) just steal my food, lay eggs on my skin, and spread diseases. They must die for my own sense of peculiarity and wellbeing.
