This is one form of very very powerful concentration exercise. Often it is called inner sound concentration. Go to the reader forum in www.thefreedomofchoice.com and type inner sound. You will see in depth description of this kind of concentration. The book is highly recommmended.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Yeah, I remember being able to hear that since I was a little kid (around 5 or 6).
Typically you need almost total silence to hear it, since even the faintest (physical) sound can be completely distracting, unless you are really good at concentrating on it.
Sometime when I concentrate on it, it gets soooooo loud it actually hurts my ears... [:P]
Good to see I'm not alone
"always here this high pitched ringing sort of sound"
Be aware that this sound is commonly caused by a physical problem in the ears called tinnitus.
Nasty
Looked around the net about that Tinnitus.
Don't think that is what we are (well, me anyway) experiencing... [:P]
Oh ok cool, thanks for doing some research on it.
Check this out:

It'll help explain a lot, and give you a good few leads to look further into this. Its not necessarily tinnitus!
Rob
So basically what I am hearing is not abnormal. Thankyou all. Maybe later on I will try some experimenting with this but for onw I am focusing on other things.
Hi,
Whenever I meditate/relax and calm my mind )which I seem to be getting pretty proficient at ) I always here this high pitched ringing sort of sound.
I was wondering what I should make of this?
I have read a little about 'the inner sound' a while ago and somewhere it suggested trying to intensify the sound and get closer to it. I haven't made much progress doing this but I haven't spent much time trying either. Usually I basically acknowledge that it is their and then turn my attention to energy work. Maybe I'm just not used to the quiet and my mind is manufacturing something, personally I don't know!
So any ideas/experiments or suggestions?
Thanks,
Jazzarati
