FT,

There is a great little book, only about a hundred and forty pages or so. It is called: Taking the Path of Zen by Robert Aitken. The first two chapters are all you need. Zen meditation is what I've done for a number of years. Now I do it to get to trance. Simply put, it is breath awareness. You can start by counting the breaths up to ten, then start over at one, and up to ten, then back, and so on. After a while, you can drop the counting and focus on your breathing, in and out. Then when your body is deeply relaxed, you will hardly need to do anything more than maintain a general awareness of the breath.

Take care,

Hi there.

I find that it is a necessity that I find some method of trance meditation before it's too late, particularly for psychic self defense. The breath-awareness method in Bruce's book is proving to be difficult, and I'm wondering if there are any suggestions or recommendations to other meditation/trance systems that anybody can put in.

And also, I'd just like to know how long it took some people to get into their first trance or successful meditation, and by which system/method they used to achieve it.

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.
