Meditating on.....

Meditating on any subject is basically just setting aside time for the sole purpose of thinking aout that one thing.  You set aside the time to just sit with a calm mind, no distractions, and think.  Spending the time doing this may or may not bring some important information or feelings to the surface.  For some its kinda like day dreaming.  Try to think about what each choice would bring you and wether it would make you happy, or better yet if it feels like the correct thing to do.  
More so it is taking the time to be aware of how each choice and solution make you feel.  Allowing you to make a more prosperous choice, and giving you a chance to listen to that inner voice.

Alright, here's the deal; I'm a senior in high school right now and I'm debating whether I should join the military then go to college or go to college right after high school. When I hear people say "Yeah I was meditating on ____ the other day and...." how do you go about this really? just clear your mind and kind of think about what you want to and let things come to your head? As of right now I can reach a light trance but nothing spectacular, do I need to go deeper for this?

There are a lot of other things that I would like to meditate on also so this is pretty important. I really appreciate any response. Thanks in advance.
