Meditation: What Does It Affect?

There are many different types of meditation. They all have different effects on the body. Even two people doing the same meditation will get different results.

I'm not really sure what you are talking about. Could you please describe it in more detail?

Astpro

I may not have explained the question in great detail last night.

>When I began to meditate I did not achieve the same ease of trance I now do when I wake in the night.

>Sometimes when I wake in the morning I find myself in a mind awake/body asleep state (could I just say trance?) I find this state difficult to break out of but not impossible, some could even call it waking paralysis.

My question is, what has changed that caused this trance effect to happen now, when before any trance work it would not?

I hope it is clearer, it is difficult to explain and make clear, I feel I am going in circles typing this.

Tom

So you are saying that you are going into trance when you do not want to? "body awake / mind asleep" instead of "body asleep / mind awake" so you are not getting the rest you need? Or did you mean it the other way around?

And what meditation are you doing? What was it that you decided to accomplish with it? Are you getting the results you were looking for?

my opinion is that actually if u know what is EEG u will get it.
EEG is kind of a device that measures the frequency of your brain - it means the frequency under which the cells are communicating between emselves (for example frequency 15Hz means that each cell sends 15 electric impulses per seconds to each neighboring cell).

The measurements showed that in the awake state your brain frequency is about 15-30 Hz - this is called beta state
- when u sleep , then in the first stage of sleep u get from 15 till 7-8Hz - alpha state - you are still awake but your thoughts are "dull"
- this is probably the state which u r experiencing in the morning
- when u fall to sleep is exactly 7 Hz, then it goes till 2 Hz - this is very deep sleep

- now to ur question - if u try to force ur brain to experience this frequency through a day (actually there is no exact frequency of the brain but f.e. frequency of 7Hz means that most of your braincells are communicating at speed of 7Hz), then the brain get used to this state , so u will experience more often this state even in the  awake state - this was actually invented by Russian scientist Pavlov in 19century and it is called Pavlov reflex

So , the result is that when u wake up u r at about 7-8Hz but u r already know what it is (u r conscious about it), and ur mind is already trained to stay in this state for a longer time

...by the way excuse my bad english

i forgot to mention , that u r forcing ur brain to achieve the alpha state by meditation

Now your just confusing me. Mind Awake/Body Asleep.

I think i understand what you're saying.  When you wake up now in the middle of the night you find yourself in the trance state?  Im curious did you always wake up in the middle of the night or only since meditating?  Just curious if the waking up in the middle of the night thing is also possibly related to energy work.

The energy work may have made it where you recognize the trance state.  Maybe before if you woke up in that state you wouldnt pay attention to it an go to sleep.  Of course maybe your energy body is stronger and you're more aware of your energy body so you can perceive the trance state at that time.

If you never woke up in the middle of the night before it makes sense you'd wake up in that state.. Your body is really relaxed and actually waking up early is the best time to try to get into that state.  (for me falling back asleep is the main problem).

Have you started sleeping on your back more?  I always roll over on my side when i wake up in the middle of the night.  I think in a way I learned to do that because of my sleep paralysis episodes.  Maybe if you're staying on your back instead of rolling over and slipping back into oblivion this could also be a reason why you find yourself in that state more.

Just giving a couple of my experiences.  I really dont know as far as theory goes why that would happen.

Meditation has the effect of altering the state of consciousness your in (recently gained information[:D]). Having a clear mind results from long meditation and having a clear mind more often makes it seem more natural for you to do it, especially after sleep. This is probably why you fall into a trance when you wake up - deep physical relaxation and a fresh, clear mind from sleep[:)].

Hope that helps.

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

What does meditation actually do to the body? I have been meditating for over a year now and whenever I wake up in the night I go into trance, or a body awake/mind asleep state. This never used to happen before I started meditating, why does it happen so freely now? Is it because the energy circuit has been strengthened, possibly breaking through some blockages around my body?
