Ok, so i have a really cluttered house and 3 people live with me and it's going to stay cluttered for sure. I don't have a room currently, i sleep on the couch. I need a place for meditation where i can sit down on my sitting pad and be still. I've heard and read that your meditation room should be kept tip top, and not cluttered, so i'm in an odd situation. What do you think i should do? Try to clean this cluttered living room (it'd take a whole day)? I think i just found the answer, lol. That sounds like a good bet, but any comments, or questions?

The goal is really to be still and uncluttered within. Outward it is not necessary but it does help. If you do not have your own space and live with noisy messy people then you might be wasting your energy in constantly trying to change this shared environment. First I would suggest finding some place where you can get away to meditate, such as going to a park or out in the woods if possible. This may not be very practical this time of year depending on where you live. Second, do what you can and feel you need to do with the area that you have, but do not stress over that which you cannot effect. Relax and go with the flow. While being in a noisy environment is not considered ideal for meditation it does have an advantage in that you will have to work harder at it, but through hard situations we grow and develop more.

Do you have your own room? Clean that. Heck, if the smell is not too bad, you could try the bathroom, no TVs or radios to distract you. Also, clutter is only a problem if you can see it, so close your eyes. Get your friends to leave you alone while you meditate. But yes, cleaning the living room is a great idea, not just for meditation but for sanity. Your friends will like it, any girls you bring over will like it, and it frees room to do things.

Also, use SpellingCow, I've bolded the errors in your post. Mainly: capitalize your 'I's.

Tyciol,

Is this a metaphysics forum or an english grammar and spelling forum?
While good written english is always preferrable, as it makes posts easier to read, how about backing off on the whole spelling thing and focus a little more on the subject matter?

anarchyhollow,
While it is not esential to have a clean tidy area to meditate, removing clutter and having a clean fresh room does improve the energies of that room significantly. Having clear energies in the room really helps with meditation. Another thought is to get a few crystals to put around the immediate area where you meditate to help clean the energies. Clear quartz clusters, Flourite, Amethyst and Agate are all very good here. Tumbled Amethyst stones and Agate slices are typically pretty cheap.

James.

Well thank you guys very much for the help! I knew my spelling errors when i wrote them, but it was easy to read right? Anyways, like fallnangel said, it would almost be worthless to clean this living room (it isn't dirty, just cluttered), because my friends would mess it up again, we've gone through it many times. I want to keep my eyes open because the texts i'm following say it's easier to be present. I will take your advice and place crystals around my meditation spot. The bathroom idea is good too, i've thought of that but thought it'd be silly. I think that's where i'll have my meditation session, in my bathroom. Only way i'll get interrupted is if someone needs to use the pot :p Thanks again guys, love ya.

Meditating while soaking in a hot bath can be nice.

I think that meditating with your eyes open helps you to be more grounded in the present environment while meditating with your eyes closed helps more with looking inward. Or maybe that is just how I do it.

Consider making the cleanup a meditation.  Focus only on what your body is doing during this meditation.  The movement of your body, your breath going out and coming in.  Stay in the moment not thinking of the past or what you might do in the future.

If your roomies mess the room up, you can be thankful for  another  opportunity to practice this meditation.

If you have one, try the backyard during sunup or sundown, that's the healthiest way to do it. I suggest you face east, as that is also healthiest and most beneficial. Rooms are good, yards are better unless the weather doesn't permit.

About cluttered rooms: actually, this causes malignant atmosphere and is not very healthy for you in general. It is better to keep a nice, tidy room I noticed otherwise your mood will drop (causing meditation problems) and you will be bothered by negative earthbound spirits (which where drawn by the negative atmosphere) these are generally like mosquitoes and not even as annoying but overtime it does get pretty bad I noticed.

  Just kidding James.... hee hee.

I agree with Spectraldragon....rooms are great for meditation, but being outside is just as good, if not better. Obviously, its important to find a place where you won't be disturbed by people / loud random noises / etc. So, the back garden is a good place to begin, if you have one. There will always be background noise, but try to enjoy it instead of being distracted by it. You'll find it soon fades away.

Also, practising at dawn and dusk means you have less chance of being distracted. On the flip side of the coin, dawn & dusk practise means you need a much higher level of resolve. Which can end up being a good thing !

hm. i dont buy into that. I live in a single room studio, and being a designer, i have art supplies and computer equipment whereever it fits. My space is cluttered, but this is one of the best places for energy raising that I have been in. Its my happy home, its a mess, but the love here is strong. And I think thats the important thing, how do YOU feel about the space, regardless of what is in it? There are places, such as my mom's house, that are stringently clean, but I have had a hard time concentrating and raising energy because the vibe in the house is one of dysfunctionality.
I recommend trying outdoors in a varation of areas. I have found a spot (in north florida, US) in the woods outside of town, that used to be Native American village. They stopped exavating the site, and now its open to the public. This is where I go when I really want to get the juices flowing. No interruptions, no city noise, just nature and a great flow of energy.

Please take special note of this statement:
QuoteAbout cluttered rooms: actually, this causes malignant atmosphere

Your studio is not the place you live in: I was speaking purely of the home itself: the resting, eating, relaxed place of your life. Also, note that clutter does not equate to malignant atmosphere, it causes it in the home. The malignant atmosphere itself is what brings about the negs, not the clutter. your workplace obviously does not have a malignant atmosphere: people don't generally associate a cluttered workplace with negativity, it's naturall to have a cluttered workplace. However, there is likely a "method to the madness" where you work. It's cluttered, sure, but you know where everything is (or the general location, anyway ;)) I hope this clears up the misunderstanding of my previous statement. ( as said in a previous post, misunderstanding between two or more beings is the cause of all forms of evil)

This is also to say: stingently clean rooms are not necissary good either, you need to find the balance in the room that works best for you. Clutter, obviously, is one thing that keeps a room from having balance. In my own experience anyway.

For me it is the same thing, too much clutter the room energy will
get a bit chaotic and I get more easily irritated. BUT I have always
had a very messy room, so I'm kinda used to it, so I can clutter more than most before getting irritated  . Most of the energy
input probably comes from yourself while being in the room, so if
you are all the time happy in the messy room I doubt the atmosphere
will drop to malignant.

Also... I did have an experience where I visited a friend. Heh, I've
NEVER seen a more messy room in my life. It was practically a junkyard.
But to my surprise the whole room glowed  He didn't seem to be bothered at all about the mess. This was funny to notice.

ourselves to infinitely
big, it will make us infinitely small.
What is our size again?

Well James S, considering that we both wrote the same amount on the subject matter, I wouldn't call your accusation very well founded. Especially since in the case of this thread the critique is valid, since it is about neatness and organization. Keeping organized and ordered in one segment of life will flow into all others.

Of course that advice is nothing compared to the all-mighty wisdom in shoving crystals in a garbage dump ;)
