Destiny and Fate. The long fought over debate. What are their true definitions? Are they the same or similar? Are they different? Go to the dictionary and look up the two words, you'll be surprised at what you find.

I'll start with my definitions. They are somewhat based on the law of attraction.

Destiny: Based on your own knowledge, you develop a liking for a thing(s)/person(s)/other/etc. and strive to follow that path with your own dilligence.

Fate: You bring everything that happens to you into your life through your thought and actions

What do you guys think the meanings of destiny and fate are?

EDIT: I have, since I posted this, changed my definitions on the two... And it doesn't really matter to me right now, that's my current definition.
"The most beatiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art, and.. science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, ..(or) marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed

Principle

Destiny - A predetermined life path, that could be altered by ones actions.

Fate - Predetermined actions and thoughts, that led a individual to a certain outcome in a situation.
However it cannot be altered, For it needs to occur so you may learn a lesson.

i think Principle has it spot on. Destiny is usually something to strive for, where as Fate is inevitable.

Think of when you here it in a sentence. Its always "achieve/reach your destiny" and "meet your fate".. tho i guess thats just what I've noticed, I'm sure I'm wrong. I've always seen Fate as the end of a path you must walk. Destiny is something, a prize, that is achieved only through certain action/inaction.
Why do people journey across the globe before taking a journey within themselves?

something that has always confused me... is how do psychic predict what's going to happen in a person's life?  are they getting their prediction from fate or destiny??? and then... if the person does something about it.. and changes their outcome.. then doesn't that screw up the outcome for everybody??

Principle

The common problem with Psychic Predicitions, You knowing certain things will change and alter the outcome of many things. Knowning these things effect your Fate, as well as your Destiny. For you may purposely steer away from your own Destiny, believing it is not right for you. When in reality, It is what you need to accomplish to learn maybe one of many lessons in the entirety of your whole being's existance.

Possibily even stunting your whole Spiritual Progress!

I think durning a Psychic Reading, the Information based on your future is either coming from Angels, or your Spirit Guides. That already know and are aware of your pre-determined walk of Life.

It is impossible for all Spirits to know the existance and goal of every other Spirit. Enless because we are all One Conciousness under Yahweh (God) that we are blessed with this Knowledge.

Ever consider both exist simultanously, not in opposition but accordance with eachother?

Destiny: the predetermined destination for your life.  It's an ending - where you arrive. You may take different routes to get there but the destination remains the same.

Fate: something put it into action - whether it be your thoughts, deeds etc...Fate occurs constantly. It's not only a destination - but rather one of circumstance. Fate may bring you the car you wanted or the job you wanted or the life you wanted. It isn't necessarily the end all. It's the steps along the way.

I guess I would argue that if there is a destiny then, by our free will to make decisions, it is always changing.  There can't be destiny and free will.  Either we choose our path, or our path chooses our thoughts and actions.  I think that some psychic abilities are true because they are able to detect the results of our actions based on the decisions that we have made up to this point.  If we are alcoholics for example then the continuation of drinking could desperse energy that psychics are able to pick up on that would reveal us to die from an alcohol related incident.  However, if we learn of this, and stop drinking, then the future that the psychic would then pick up on would have been altered.  Our destiny is the end result of the path that we have chosen, but our destiny can be altered by altering the choices that we make.  So I guess I would say that we do have a fate, but that we are also able to choose it.

Well, there are some theories about this, some which point out that time doesn't exist, that everything happens at the same time, we just perceive it in a linear fashion.  Then your higher or eternal self already knows what's 'going to ' happen, although our limited self is experiencing it.  Precognition would happen when the limited self connects to the HS.
Then there is the idea that there is no time, only now, there is no future, that everything that happens is a result of decisions made now, and some people can 'tune into' the most probable results of the present decisions-
I don't know nuthin'.   :-)

I've heard a similar hypothesis - time is happening all at once the future, past, and present.

I've also read that some people believe pyschics are able to predict the "future" by tapping into the Akashic records.  Perhaps they don't realize they are doing this but maybe this might be?  Or perhaps if time is happening now, they are able to see it where others can't.
