I can't say the dreams are always nice, but atleast I know where I am.
We are not truly lost, until we lose ourselves.

Mystic Cloud

Yes I get a lot of flashbacks during the day. Sometimes
I remember a large piece of that dream because of that
flashback. The flashbacks are more intensified during meditation.
If we compare us to infinitely small,
that will make us infinitely big,
but if we compare
ourselves to infinitely
big, it will make us infinitely small.
What is our size again?

I've noticed a similar thing only they becoming more and more voluntary.

The reason for the increased dream recollection is enhanced concentration and the resulting reduciton in unnecessary dreck in our minds. That leaves more room for the interesting bits.

Reminds me of Franz Bardon's comments on mastery of thoughts from Initiation into Hermetics :

"Above all you must become accustomed to performing all tasks with complete awareness, whether it be in your profession or in your private life, regardless of whether you are dealing with something major or not. This exercise has to be practised for the rest of your life, as it hones the spirit and strengthens the conciousness and memory."

I can see that "living in the now" shares aspects of "performing all tasks with complete awareness".

In regards to this topic, living in the "now" is said to be a powerful starting point to absolute freedom in life.  But how is it done?  Right now I'm sitting at my comp typing this message, but there are more important things to think about.  Tomorrow I have to wake up early and go job searching because my rent and car insurance is due soon and basking in the "now" isn't exactly getting anything done.  I have to think about the future because the events that happen in the future are going to effect the events that I already know will take place in the future (ie, studying for a test because school has started and raising money so I can eat and have electricity).  It could be risky basking in the "now" because it distracts me from reality.  Isn't that more important?

Do one thing at a time.
Make a plan for the future and then execute it one part at a time as events unfold but don't worry ahead and get hung up on the past.

That kind of living isn't really basking but hard work. It takes an effort to concentrate on doing what you're doing in each moment and not let one's mind wander. The past is gone and once you have learned what you can of it let it go. The future isn't here yet and the most oyu can do is have a flexible plan. Once you have that let the future take care of itself.
Pay attention to every moment and act accordingly.

This living in the now is a very interesting concept, and as pointed out already, it does take a lot of effort to educate yourself into.  Usually more effort than most people care to exert.

The hardest part I found was in keeping the mind focused on what I was doing, whether it was mundane/natural instinct or not, etc. It was very difficult.

At first I was reminding me to stay in the now about every two or three minutes of each day!  Serious effort there folks. [:P]

After a while I still had an accident in my car even though I was actually in the moment/now as it happened and changed.  I call it the flow.

From that I learned some things....

Sometimes there is nothing you can do.

Being in the now is about awareness of your surroundings, physical and non-physical, more so than thinking only about what you are doing in that moment.

Real Now is a Balance of everything you are, including your thoughts, aspirations, desires and wants... whether they are from your past or hoped/dreaded in your future.

It is the being aware of the thoughts of the past and future, the thoughts of planning, etc, while you go about your daily life, while being aware on different levels of the energies as they move around and through you, that would illustrate living Now.

Lastly, an awareness of the Flow that occurs for your path choices... you know, being the river type of thing... added to all the above would perfectly be living in the Now.

My old pennies worth. [:P]

[:D] Surroundings are in integral part of doing anything but it bears reminding oneself of the fact.

When awareness of any part of the moment is lost the moment is lost.

you just stop thinking, and then you start noticing surroundings [:P], don't think about noticing surroundings and being in the now

think when you want to, living in the now doesn't mean that you have to notice everything around you, becouse data flow is beyond capabilities of your mind and it doesn't make any sense, you just have a choice to not be restricted by thoughts

The AlphaOmega,
I know what your saying! Economics have to play out in the now as well.It has always been a challenge for me because I feel I've always had better things to do. But if life requires this from you, you are meant to meet it. In due time you will get a handle on it instead of it on you like you said. My kids are at that point too, and I sure feel for them.Being in school is always a good move.

I don't mean to get into your business, but attitude is important with the now. Do you have a particular job in mind? I would go with a job with flexible hours, and hours you can set for yourself. If I had it to do all over again, I try to get on at a video rental place. Those look like fun.

Insurance is a funny business. I personally don't think there should be laws making you have it. But since it's the law, and a requirement under lending agreements, an adjustment must be made. The next best thing is to get to know the insurance people you pay money to. The whole idea of insurance is that you will not need to use it.Therefore, getting to know and stay close with the insurance people, they will probably find the cheapest and best deal for you. And if you have a good relationship, they will project a sense of insurance(assurance) toward you.I hate to look at something that seems like money down a rathole, so at least, there is a compromise, and thoughts can stay positive. Have an insurance person or persons you deal with on a face to face basis.

Are you motivated by a certain area of interest, and something you can make money doing? Aren't students always in demand because they are known to be reliable and responsible? You should be able to pick and choose anything you want.

Another thing to consider, sometimes buying can be as cheap as renting.

To be quite honest, I don't think there should be a law forcing people to get insurance.  Here in New Zealand, 90% of the people have insurance, and the other 10% get it after their first accident.  There's no law forcing me to get insurance, but I honestly think it's a good investment to have it.  A few dollars a month for total peace of mind(financially).

Back to the main post.

I tend to live in the now a lot of the time, if not all of the time.  I know what I have to do tommorow/next, but I don't give it any thought.  It's just kind of like a feeling where time is of no importance.  I'm probably the least stressed person I've ever met.  I've gone through breakup's without so much as looking back at what I'd just lost, instead, I accept it and get back to living.  I tend to get flashes and de ja vu very often.  A few times a day.  My dreams are always highly vivid, and often lucid.  Take note however that I would consider myself to be a very underproductive person in comparison to those around me.  All those who started with me are leading very successful careers, but I myself, with the exact same qualifications, work for only half their salaries with 1/4 of the workload.

Also, has anyone ever had a dream where they felt extremely happy?  I had one such dream during high school, if I ever feel like my life is missing something, I just think back to that dream, and everything is perfect again.  Isn't it amazing how I can perfectly remember, in every detail, a dream I had 5 years ago, yet I can't even remember where I put my car keys today.

I find myself sometimes, sitting while I think of nothing and just enjoy the scene, and an

indescribable tingling pleasurable aroma of spiritual energy coming

down all my body in this wave of pure pleasure, and sometimes

some people can feel this happy radiation from me and look at me with a smile.

Let go of worldy affairs, trivial affairs, and you will get into the

passive pleasurable state of living in the now and extreme happiness.

I think that is the spirit or higher self decending down on the individual.

I've got a question for the people who live in the now. Do you also get a lot of "flashbacks" of beautiful dreams you had? I'm getting more and more of these flashbacks when I live more and more in the now.

And also, aren't dreams so nice because in a dream you are living in the now?
