I read that J. K. Rowling had the first Harry Potter book almost chanelled to her while sitting on a long train journey. She isn't a medium or anything, but apparently the concept followed by the story line just kept coming into her head and she wrote it down.

I'm going to miss your profound posts that make everything so clear for me, timeless. But I do look forward to reading the book and hope that it's the next Harry Potter! [] By the way, I heard somewhere that when the idea came to her, she was so unprepared for it that she ended up writing it on a napkin.
