anything can be a sin. its depending on how you feel and what you generate when you are doing it.
for example, if i drink to much alcohol i would feel very bad. thats me. i feel bad from it and that is negative. its a sin for me. if you on the other hand drink to much and feels just fine, know what youre doing and why. if you dont hurt yourself or anyone else its not a sin.

from this point of wiev sin and karma is more similar

to me it seems like the church is producing sins their members by scaring them. -YOU MAY NOT SMOKE! -ohh? why not? i feel great when i smoke...
this guy will probably feel bad every time he smokes if he cant se what the church is trying to do with him.

I dont want to go to heaven, if there is such a place, except to laugh at the conformists, because there are better places that I have already been to.

hehe, nice one!

Hang ups about 'sins' are a sure indicator of the inbuilt guilt complexes created by christianity (and other mainstreamers) and serves the purpose of keeping people in line.
Of all the christian factions, the catholic branch has got this down to a fine art, what with confesion and all that. I know its a bit of a generalisation but most catholics I know have very ingrained guilt complexes, even if they don't like to admit it!
I don't know about anywhere else, but certainly here in the UK the term 'catholic guilt complex' has become part of common usage.

BTW, the church likes to bang on about how the occult is 'dangerous' and they have seen evidence of deep rooted psychological damage caused by 'dabbling in the occult'. What the church fails to mention is that the people who tend to have problems are those with deep rooted conditioning, as described above, but who  nevertheless try to break away.
However, after a while it all becomes to much for them and they run back to the open arms of the church again to 'repent'. What they don't mention is that those who have no deep rooted connection to the church or are not christian are fine with it.
btw, I just felt i had to mention all this, as I have just fininshed reading a newspaper article about all the 'good' work the church has done recently to combat those traumatised by dabbling in the occult and it really annoyed me, especially as the church is at the root of these problems!

Gandalf,

I concurr.  A classic example of this (although there are many!) ocurred when Mesmer introduced the principles of magnetism to the human race.  The Church (i.e. Roman in this case) condemnded him, only to begin adopting the same practices themselves 17 years later.  What a curiosity?  According to the Church, they could use this "power" to bring those who are "lost" back to the Church!

The same condition applied to Freemasonry.  The Church condemned it, however, MANY of its members (clerks, clergy, etc...) were Freemasons.  It wasn't until the war came about that the lodges emptied.

Inconsistency is the root of confusion...

One does not "go to" heaven.  It is not a place- that is materialistic thinking.

Everything in life has a polarity and it is up to us to find the balance.  Having too much fun can introduce the same "balance" issue that your post introduced.

The whole idea of "sin" is handled through the natural laws of Karma.  Jesus taught this, however, materialists have to read the actual sentence in a material book before they will believe, as they have no understanding.  When one understands these natural laws, one is in a position to deal with sin, as opposed to being affected by it out of ignorance.

Heaven is not a place- more materialism.  I understand what you are pointing, though.  More precisely, the dogmatics would spoil your party...understood.  It is more correct to view these souls as underdeveloped, in the same way that the animal kingdom is less developed than we are; the Angellic kingdom is higher than we are.

However, I disagree with need to laugh at another whose development does not equate to your own.  After all, the one who laughs last, is usually the dumbest one on the block. [:o)]Insert

I dont know what else to call it. If it exists, it would of course be a mental state.

I view them that way, but I can still laugh at them. Lots of things that arent normally considered funny can be funny. Pull that stick out of your butt. hehehe hehehhehhhehehehhe hehehhehe hehehehe yeah buttknocker hehehehhehe </stupid beavis laugh>

Perhaps, they don't care either.  After all, you don't.  It is important to understand that the Angellic Kingdom possesss an intelligence that we have to work for.  Ergo, they would not be apt to laugh at another's folly. [B)]Insert
