Hello all~1st time ever posting here. I have been doing some research into reincarnation and psychic abilities-I have long been interested in both of these topics. Mostly beacuse I want to grow spiritually and strength this important part of my mind and being.
Everything I have always read in regards to techniques one can use to become more "in tune" with my spirit -and the most common and most important it seems is meditation.
But I have found that I seem to have some sort of mental block-I cannot successfully reach a meditative state.
Now, either my expections are to high as to what I am suppose to experience or I just cannot let go.
It seems I just end up thinking about what I am trying to do..."emptying" my mind seems to be impossible. I can't stop my internal chatter.
Has anyone else here experienced this problem?
If so please let me know how you got over it , that is if you were able to do so.
All responds are greatly appreciated!
Blessed Be!
your not alone queen, i still have these problems..
you really just need to keep at it, then once you realise your mind is still, the chattering mind becomes a helpful tool to know if your doing what your supposed to be doing. You knda have to keep switching from chattering mind to still mind for a good while until your able to overide the chattering mind.
A good way of shutting up your mind is to exhale as hard as possible, then for a few moments being able to recognise your "still" mind will become easier.. its what worked for me.
good luck with it :)
NileQueen,
What you mention here is not uncommon. Not everyone is suited to the classic "sit and be still" type meditation.
Are you a physically active person?
A close friend of mine is very active and can't tend to sit still long enough to meditate. She uses Yoga as her form of meditation - something physical. Tai Chi can also do the same thing. They both bring calm to the mind through focussed gentle physical activity.
Otherwise, do you find you can physically sit still for the time you need, but just can't get the mind to slow down?
If that's the case, then you should look at doing some guided meditations rather than just trying to use techniques to calm the mind. Keeping the mind quiet is actually quite hard to do, even for seasoned meditators.
Authors like Doreen Virtue and Louise Hay, and quite a few others have guided meditation CD's out that could be just the trick. They give your mind something to do by going through visualisations which are highly beneficial for learning to tune in to the spirit world.
Blessings,
James.
You need to build up your power of concentration. That is the way to higher powers. When the mind is scattered, as it usually is, racing with random thoughts, it is weak. But when you concentrate it, it becomes more powerful. I concentrate on the breath (at my nostrils), not forced, but relaxed awareness. As soon as your mind moves from the breath put it back. Eventually you will be able to hold it their for longer and longer and soon you will enter what is obviously an altered state of consciousness. You need to build up enough power of concentration and then turn your mind to what you wish to achieve. After a long enough time it will become natural and will be able to do it at will.
Hi, NileQueen!
I have read of a couple of different techniques that might be helpful. One is to use your thoughts as the meditation--imagine that you are watching them pass by, like clouds in the sky. Another is to use the technique of focusing on your breath, like MindFreak says--but taking a second to say "thinking," when you are realizing that you are paying attention to a thought, before refocusing your attention.
My mind tends to wander all over the place. I usually meditate with visual imagery to give it something to focus on, like the Tower of Light visualization or meditating on my chakras, imagining them to be flowers of light opening them up. I also really like meditation CDs, although I don't like it if the meditation is too rigidly structured. Meditation music works best for me, although that may be because I am a musician. Sometimes I focus on my breath but also imagine that I am inhaling Divine Light and Love, and that my body/aura glows brighter and brighter with each breath.
THANK YOU ALL!
You all gave me some very useful information.
I will continue with my meditation and not get so discouraged when my mind wanders. I will jusat have to work at it till it is no longer such a chore.
Thank you all once again!
Blessed Be
