Great website timeless! Nice layout with the color and diagrams. The site has a good web developer. There is much information on the chakras there. Thanks.

Regarding Google, I have to tell a little story. If you get bored, I apologize. When I was just a kid (long time ago before the internet) I remember getting my first library card and being happy because now I had access to all the books and knowledge the library could provide. It was a great feeling.

Now, many years later, I have the same feeling when I use the search engines of a site like Google. What a nice thing, to type in a query and have an almost instantaneous delivery of websites capable of answering the question. Very nice.

Greetings,

Yes I definitely agree about Google, I use it all the time, easily better than all of the original search engines.

There is another one to watch though:

Thanks Adrian, I've bookmarked the alltheweb.com site and will try it out.

As a follow-up, I was interested in the Chakras after reading over the site posted by timeless, so I found a book I thought I would mention.

The book is entitled Chakras by Patricia Mercier. It looks like a good starter book with information on each of the major chakras. It also has chapters with such topics as "Chakras and sound", "Chakras and sacred stones" and "Healing our bodies of light". It has superior color photographs and illustrations as well.

As I mentioned, the book appears to be more of a starter-type overview, however I have found it a good read so far.

That's a good link for an overview of the (well-known) series of six cakras, called Satcakra (covered in a text named Satcakranirupana). Note that the seventh, Sahasrara, is the lotus located above the series of six.

I'd like to mention, though, that there is another system composed of a series of five cakras, known as Pancacakra. This system is described in detail in a (hard to find) book titled: The System of Five Cakras in Kubjikamatatantra 14 - 16. The '14 - 16' means that this book is an examination of chapters 14 - 16 of the Kubjikamatatantra. The five cakras in the Pancacakra are: Devi-, Duti-, Matr-,Yogini- and Khecaricakra.

In terms of location, the cakras of these two systems appear to be related, though the symbolism will differ between the systems.
In terms of location:
1. Devicakra corresponds with Muladhara (Adhara) and Svadisthana (below the navel).
2. Duticakra corresponds with Manipura (navel).
3. Matrcakra corresponds with Anahata (heart).
4. Yoginicakra corresponds with Visuddhi (throat).
5. Khecaricakra corresponds with Sahasrara (above the head).
The Pancacakra does not have a cakra that corresponds to the Ajna cakra of the Satcakra system.

Finally, I'd like to add definitions of cakra and mandala as used in the Kubjikamatatantra. A cakra is a circle or group of deities and a mandala is their seat ('the mandala is the adharah (locus) and the cakra (of deities/mantras) the adheyam (located)').

Thanks for bringing this book to our attention, I will certainly take a look.

The chakras are a very important part of the energy system of the etheric body and I am surprised there are not more books on the subject.

Adrian.

Dear All,

I found a good website I thought I would share.  Rare when you get one with this much detail and this many pages.  If you read far enough there are some good exercises and meditation suggestions to help with chakra activation.  Often the chakras are sluggish or wobbly or lopsided when they first start to spin.  Also, discomfort is common due to blockages.  Consistent work helps move past this stage.  As some of you know I am a big fan of using crystals in combination with chakra meditation since they can be helpful with clearing blockages.
