I use earplugs so I can listen to it more clearly and tell how far into trance I am. It will change the deeper you go.

The AlphaOmega

I've heard it since I was a child.  Even now I can bring it on at will.  It often described as a ringing or something similar (like the sound you hear right after you turn a t.v. off or something).  The only benefit it's ever brought me is for concentration.  It's something that I can easily focus on, and the more I focus, the louder it gets, which makes it even easier to focus.  Other than that, it's just an everyday occurance.

you are talking about tinitus? its when cells
in the ear die and start to give a constant signal to the brain
that sound should be heard. for some musicians it realy is a problem.
the next step (before insanity i suppose) is hyperacusis. when one start to experience sounds as louder than thay are, and more hurting to the ear.

ive also noticed that the sound becomes louder and different when meditating, i think it is the perception not the sound that changes. its a good litle indikator actually. i dont recomend this at all but if you want tinitus you can go to a very loud rockconcert without earplugs and stand as close to the louspeaker as possibe. but... dont do that... you can probably find some allready in your ears just as intruderx did.

I'm also familiar with this phenomenon [8D].
Like AlphaOmega I also experienced it since I was a child and it is not only experienced during meditation or concentration but also when I'm tired or half way to sleep.

It certainly isn't tinitus or any kind of damage to the ear, i'm sure of that. Tinitus can't be manipulated by your mind to stop or to rise in volume.
This wistling sound often appears during OBE when rising the vibrations is neccesary to enter the astral plane [;)].

Yeah a little ear ringing that you can't hear unless you concentrate on it is not tinnitus. For me it sounds like it's made up of several frequencies, if you listen to the lower frequencies then after a while it starts to get fuzzier. I have a feeling it's related in some way to the astral rushing noises before separation.

Here's a good article on it:

http://astralvoyage.com/projection/internal_ringing.html
quote:

I and other projectors have told people to listen to the internal ringing in their ears to bring on a projection. Numerous people responded to success with this. Why? The conclusion I originally drew was that it was because this narrowed our thread of thought, which reduced the electrical input to the brain and less input reduces energy, thus magnetism.... This may be PART of the reason, but I think it also relates to the following:

Most internal ringing is normal. Why? Because the internal mechanism of the healthy ear creates sound vibrations, and your "ear sounds" or otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) can be recorded by a microphone probe fitted to your ear! In fact, OAEs are routinely used to test for normal hearing in newborn babies. This internal ringing is normal. However, excessive ringing is called tinnitus and is so annoying that it leads subjects to severe depression. Although excessive ringing in the ears is considered a disease, it has been documented that "in more than half of the cases, the exact cause of the tinnitus cannot be identified". Now, the American Tinnitus Association, using the brain imaging technique called PET (positron emission tomography) surprisingly discovered that when internal ringing was present, the hippocampus (viewed by some scientists as the seat of emotion in the brain) was stimulated. And where is the hippocampus? It is part of the temporal lobe along with the olfactory cortex and the..... amygdala! (see the amygdala link). Although each function separately, they are grouped together as "the limbic system". The vibration of one, stimulates the other.

Few months ago during meditating, and raising energy I started
to hear a sound in my head which is like wistling, it is not by any way unpleasent. And any time i quite my mind i can hear the sound and
when i concentrate on it is automaticaly relaxing me, i used to listen sometimes to brainwave generator sounds and now i have my own brainwave :)
I was wondering if anyone know any more information of the inner sound,
and it's uses in progressing and expanding consciousness or AP -
thank you
