strange meditation sensations

Thanks for the feedback, Timeless!

So if I understand you correctly, the sensations I'm now experiencing are a result of pulling energy in through the top and bottom half of my body. The 'grounded' feeling in the bottom half is a result of earth energy which helps in being grounded during the meditation. The 'floating' or lightweight sensation is from the higher energy levels in the upper body. Correct? That makes sense to me, thanks!

And yes, my goal for meditation is experiencing the divine within; Christ consciousness; spirit; whatever you want to call it.

Now for the really dumb question, is it common to meditate for other reasons?

It sounds like many of you have a lot of experience with meditating. I've only been doing it for about a year now. But within the past few months, I've been able to 'easily' go longer during my meditation (over 30 minutes). I realize that many people sit for much longer -- like hours. But I realize I'm not quite there yet. So, for me, that's a long time.

But I'm curious about something. I usually meditate in a half-lotus position. And now as I meditate, I notice that my upper body, from the waist up, will feel very light. Several times I felt like was I about to just float off into the air. But the bottom half of me, waist down, felt very grounded. It didn't seem to move or budge at all.

And this floating sensation is usually preceded by the feeling in my arms like they are floating just outside of themselves. Not above or beside, but like my arms somehow expanded to twice their normal size, but also 1/16 of their weight. I can feel them where they are (resting on my knees/lap), but they feel like they are larger and lighter than normal and I can almost sense movement, although I'm not moving them. Does this make any sense to anyone?

I'm assuming this has to do with the length and depth of the meditation I'm finally beginning to achieve. But I found it odd that I only get the sensation from my waist up.
