Of course the astral body can be destroyed. The astral body has to stay on the astral planes, just as the physical body stays on the physical. What about mental planes and higher up? Although the mental planes overlap with the astral, you need a mental body to be on the mental planes. Robert Bruce has been above the mental planes.

It depends on the circumstances. If you are out doing astral projection, the original copy of your consciousness is still in your body. Robert Bruce said that if the copy your are projecting in is damaged or destroyed your original copy is still safe in your body. He explained that if the copy of your consciousness which is out projecting gets destroyed it is a significant loss of energy, and that sounded unpleasant. If your physical body is dead, you bring your etheric body and it breaks up in about two weeks or less if you don't start sucking up etheric matter from living sources. Then you are in your astral body. You also have your mental body with you. When the astral body eventually breaks up you are in your mental body. The astral body tends to last a very long time, though. It is hard for me to imagine what could actually destroy an astral body.
Since i heard that u can get hurt in the astral and it shows up on your physical body, if there a way that your astral body can be completely destroyed? If that was to happen would that be that your spirit has gone out of existance? In the astral, is there anyway to get out of the astral just before u get destroyed?
