I know it's supposed to represent the third eye... but how do they get it on there? Is it drawn on, or is it a wound they keep picking at so it won't heal? Why not just draw an eye, it looks prettier, like on Tien Shin Han. Yes, I know his eye's real...

I have tried asking my Indian friend who is Sikh but he dosen't think i am serious and thinks I am playing a joke. He might not know though, as I said he is Sikh not Hindu.

Gandalf

pretty sure it is a tattoo.

can be worn by both sexes but I believe it is more common in indian women nowadays as a form of beauty spot.

the men wear a long one, phallic/yang, that's a third eye of Shiva.  A real eye on the head....hmm...kindof scary...

women have to wear a round one, representing "a point of infinite density", the yoni/yin.  I think they are trying to make a point  ...It should be drawn on with kumkum or sindoor.  The modern day stuff is a sticker and represents nothing in particular.

It is only to be worn during prayers as it helps focus and later everyday by married women...since married women should pray everyday...

Hey, it can't be that bad as a wound or a tatoo...lol. Indians are, through their culture, more peaceful and balanced people then others. That sindur or kumkum substance has a specialty of cooling and relaxing the Agnya chakra, it has a particular healing vibration. You can see it as a medicine, it is an apropriate definition.
Of course, because it's considered an auspicious substance and an auspicious sign, that red dot it's worn also as a sign of devotion to God. Fanaticism can also occur, as everywhere in a human civilization  :?   , but basically it's sort of a subtle treatment.

I've tried it myself during meditation and it helps, definitely.
Of, course, when the kumkum is replaced by cosmetics, it has no effect.

Ana

Such a nice name you have, Kalratri!

I personally think BEN-GAY has more of an ability to increase concentration, where ever it is applied. After using it do not reposition your package, that ain't cool, well actually yes it is, very very burning cool. Guys will understand.

sweetbliss

lol,
Ben-Gay, I haven't tried until now! It must be something. Though I'm a girl!  :)

But when mentioning the cooling sensation and a medicine I meant something subtle, like cool vibrations. Because the kumkum does not give that icy feeling, on a normal physical level it feels like normal paint, on a subtle level it is soothing and relaxing. It is like water or food blessed by a saint person, it can cure or improve the physical side, too. But these get their good vibrations when being blessed, the kumkum has them in it. Still, I have heard that plastic recipients will spoil its vibrations.

There is another substance Indians use for clearing, it's a plant called anjwain. Seeds are used for tea or burned on coal to make smoke (used for clearing a place or chakras on the left side), and the effect is that it improves the moon, dark side of the subtle body. I do this sometime and it's been the strongest plant treatment I have experienced. It's quite amazing what those small seeds can do. But this can heat if used too much, it can heat the liver, which is on the right side.

There are many treatments (even bell jingle might help clear the atmosphere at a place), they can be turned into ritualism, but basically, if used sincerely, they have their results.

The interesting part is that both kumkum and anjwain have cool vibrations if checked (that's why Indians consider them auspicious), still they work in a complementary way, one is cooling, the other heating. The end effect is cool vibrations, anyway.

Hope it helps.

The Vibrations caused by these herbs, are they the same vibrations that are experienced in an OBE? Or were you referring to some cosmological relevance of every atom on a sub-atomic level vibrates at different frequencies?

sweetbliss

That's a good question, because I've never had an OBE. So...  :?:

I experience them during meditation, when Kundalni clears a chakra or when I manage to stabilize the thoughtless awareness.
I don't know about atoms, but I relate these vibrations to Kundalini manifestations, being so more subtle that matter. When living (our body) is enlightened through Kundalinin awakening, it can feel this manifestation, because senses get connected to it...
Is it the same?

It a bit out of topic, though...

You

I could use a phallic yang on my head...

I think the Indian's peacefulness (if you call it that, in the past they had a lot of wars, they're just peaceful when the British beat on them) is more a result of guys like Ghandi than any mark on the head. Though being given a lot of pain as a child could cause you act passive...

This reminds me of the pictures Naruto and his mentor have on their hands to focus their Chakra. It's neat.

Wow, Tyciol, this evening I didn't have any replies to read, I was about to go to sleep and then I receive 4 messages from you. Which means that tomorrow again I'll have to fight sleeping during working ours... :?
See, you have just reached your message no. 777, and my registration no. was 7777... I might be a sort of interference, who knows? Astral meeting at Sahasrara, wow... (That's how Hindus call the 7th center, the crown chakra, where the connection with the Divine takes place, Sahasrara, 'the 1000 petal Lotus'). Wish you are there when you read this, it can be...

About the red dot...

Quote from: TyciolI could use a phallic yang on my head...

Of course you can, it wouldn't be that bad, either. It would mark the presence of God the Father in your head; in a Hindu's vision it would be called Shiva linga. Not bad at all!
I had once this experience, Tyciol: In a particular time period, when I used to reach a more profound state of meditation and the peace and satisfaction began to install... this thingy appeared, which was not exactly like an abstract Shiva linga, but much more like the image of a human body organ. And always in my heart :? .
So I know that the heart is Shiva's place (as also the Sahasrara) and I had read about Shiva linga and the rest, but still... You can imagine the guilt and the thoughts like 'I must be obsessed, or possessed, yak' etc. (I read that these possessions are called 'negs' on this forum, lol, something like this I meant.) It was always spoiling my best meditations. And once, as I also managed to get in a good meditation state, and it appeared again, I was enjoying it too much to let it destroyed by a little 'possession', so it was kind of 'let it be, what can it do now' and got relaxed for the first time... The interesting part is that the 'neg' did not get dissolved by good vibrations, did not disappear, like I would have expected, on the contrary, it became a tremendous column of subtle light in my heart. Light is too material to be compared with that amazing thing which is Shiva linga. If this appears in your head, be just happy, because nothing is going to bother or upset you any longer. This you can trust. You'll fell it!

'Indian's peacefulness'... I might exaggerate sometimes, still the motherly soothing quality is there with them, more then we can expect. I have some Indian friends and especially the women are special, they still are what the western women forget sometime to be. Man can be a bit spoiled sometimes, maybe as partners western men are better in some respects  (lol, they will know at least how to use a washing machine).
I am from a country which is between East and West as tradition, so this things are kind of mixed with us (we still don't have men using washing machines  :D  :? ), but I have been in a few other countries, and I do feel that we all have different qualities developed, that we are somehow complementary, but we are just ignoring this. Tolerance and that facts that we are one and have to fight racism and staff should not prevent us from seeing the differences which are part of Nature's creativity.
And, as far as I have noticed, Indian give more affection to their children then we do. That's why they stick so much to their families, which for we us (including here my country) seems many times unbelievable.

If you really want to know how the third eye of an enlightened person works, you can 'stare' a bit at the red dot of the person who is my guru. (You can find the photo on the link in my profile, but I suppose that you have noticed it already, that's why you asked about it,  :?:   ) See if it works. If it doesn't so easily, I'd be glad to give you any further info or support.
She can show to you who you are, that you are not at all that bad (I have read some of your last posts, I hope you don't mind). See, my chakras are not caching at all when I talk to you, And generally I would totally avoid real negative people.

If God does exist or not...? It is a matter of experience. My guru says, for instance that America is the throat chakra of the Earth and that the archetype or divine aspect governing it is god Krishna. (He is the divine aspect in any individual throat chakra. Also, if you are concerned about Christianity, Christ is governing the third eye or Agnya chakra. He resides in everybody's Agnya chakra, with no respect of religion.)
The interesting part here is that I saw Krishna a few time, each time one day before meeting people from the States. I did not know that I will meet them, either was I trying to see things , it just happened, you see.(First time I saw him I got like overwhelmed and frightened lol, it is to impressive to bear, tough it makes you happy!).
Last time when this happened it was also the strongest; I was meditating with some friends, using our guru's photograph, and then instead of the photo I saw this Krishna, sitting on a throne, with all the king attributes (he lived like a king, in India about 8000 years ago), and he said something like: 'Now you have to pray for the protection of Americans'. Just a vision, maybe imagination, one can say, isn't it? The fact is that this was a week or two before September 11th and this might show thing in another perspective.
So God is a matter of experience, if he wants to show himself to you, he can do it, even if this might scare you a bit. But generally he does not have any desire to scare you  :) , he knows what to do to take care of you. You'll see that.

:? I hope this is not too long. I do have this bad habit of talking too much. Waiting for more messages from you,

Ana

I don't know who Naruto is  :?: .
And my grammar is also not brilliant.

You

Yeah, about the 777, I know how 777 means heaven to a lot of numerologists, so I purposely stop posting when I get to numbers like that to freak people out, it's awesome. I did the same thing at 666, and I'll do the same thing at 999 (which should be a couple days from now...), but no one will remember me saying this and still be freaked out.

Namaste!

Suswagatam, Njann! :)

:D Don't assume that I speak Hindi, I've just asked a friend of mine.

I hope you'll enjoy the forum. I'm also new here.
