I think you may have just pointed out something that might very well have bible scholars and theologins arguing for another couple of hundred years.

Either way God is the way!  Christ was God in the flesh, the only begotten Son.  So "I am the way" or "I am is the way" wouldn't change anything.  Robroy, I'm not sure if you are just making an observation or somehow suggesting that the word IS could change things.  But in my mind if the gospel is true then I don't think God would allow it's true meaning to be altered by the word IS.  Hahaha, in other news the Almighty God was destroyed today by the word IS.  [:)] Sorry, thought I'd give myself a chuckle!

Jesus definitely said "I am the way." But to answer your other point, he also says he is the "I Am" in John 8:58.

"I Am is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me"... just doesn't sound right.

but it is good to see that you are looking into things rather than just blindly accepting what other say [:)].

Did Jesus say, "I am the way" or did he say "I am IS the way"
The name of God is I AM THAT I AM.  The IS could have been easily removed.
