my point of view on religion

I was raised catholic, went to catholic school and all {not very good memories from the catholic school though  :|} , I've been in the vatican to a cardinal appartment and well at the beginning I was quite judging him and the whole church and I came back with not a pleasant feeling about it {you know being so much poorness in the world and how this guys have A LOT of money} after that my mom gave me a whole lecture on how not to judge them because they're also humans and can make mistakes, etc... the thing is that last year I realized that it's true how we're not ment to judge others, but that we all have free will on choosing whatever we want to, since then I've decided not to belong to any religion, why? To me, I've come to a point where one of the things that involves religion is that is some way divides people {not for open minded, of course} but for example, my mom is very devoted with catholic beliefs and if one day I came and told her I would marry a christian {for example} she would totally freak out!

Everyone knows how religions have had wars killing those who oppose to their beliefs or hate towards others that belong to any other religion or trying to "convert" them, when it is supposed to be all about love even if the others are different from you, isn't it? so one day I just grabed the bible and started reading it and I found many things of interest, tricky to interpret sometimes, but I found a part where it said how we are supposed to live in the now {don't remember the lines exactly} not having all those worries about tomorrow, another interest thing in the commandments, the first one actually, says not to have any image to worship, I think it's beacause it drags our attention to it instead of being focused on the main thing "growing spiritualy"  Also how different are the bibles of each religion, because they have been manipulated by men, they can add or take away what they want, that doesn't give me much to trust.

Lately I've been thinking that there would be no point for religions if everyone were focused on evolving spiritualy instead of materializing everything and seeking material proof when it's inside of all of us and how people love to label things when we really don't need any of those, then it would be easier to be aware of the "oneness", but anyway that's just my point of view, I repeat, everyone's got free will to choose whatever they want and that I mean no offense to anyone here.

Greetings,

Lili

A religion should bring you to an inner experience, and I think that's where most religion fails these days. It sounds like you've recognized this. The preacher or teacher or buddha isn't the way, it's what they do to help you find it in yourself. It's more than possible to have a spiritual experience through Christianity - unfortunately most Christians stick strictly with the image of Jesus dying as the sole reason for being a Christian. They're told they don't have to do anything because Christ did it for them, so they never really understand, or more important, experience.

the bad thing is that I would get into a debate about it with her and she wont change not even a bit of her beliefs, I'll just leave it like that, she's already too freaked out about me not going to church anymore.

I totally agree with that and well I haven't found any priest that would help finding it in myself, so I guess I'll do it my way. Also what I've understood from the bible is that the reason to get people together is to intensify the energy so to expand, I've also heard that's the reason you can find meditation groups, so that the energy around increases.

I also don't have any religious affiliation, I'm sure that makes some people pretty angry and confused!  :?

*Have you ever seen the movie Zeitgeist? I just got done watching it and it was unbelievable. It is a three part documentary / movie that talks about the origins of Christianity, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the banking system. You should download it and watch the section on Christianity, then show it to your mom!  :-D

hey thanks a lot for the advice!, I'll look for it tonight to watch it and as you said, showing it to my mom... seriously it won't make a difference, I wish it would, I've tried before even my dad, she gets kind of upset whenever my dad and I are watching shows or movies that go against religion or her beliefs, I even had to hide to read the davinci code lol! that's how she is towards religion... but well I've learned with time that is also about respect, if she doesn't want to change her mind I'll never be able to, so I respect her decision and keep my ideals to myself.
