Devin knew his life was coming to an end. Blood from the wound to his side was pumping out more than he could retain and the blurry bits on the edge of his conscious were advancing on him. The cold grey streets were empty, no help was coming. The clouds above grew darker and clashed into each other causing lighting to split the sky. Devin did not feel the rain drops on his skin; in fact he didn't feel much at all. He was gone, his soul had ascended and all that remained of his former glory was a crumpled figure turning the puddles of silver around him red. Judgement was coming, not even the immortals could escape that.

Devin's body was not found until early the next day because of the weather, all dignity lost as he was thrown into a plastic bag and put into the back of an ambulance. Two rather odd looking figures stood together watching the scene unfold from the crowd. The first a man dressed in well tailored black suit with a cane in one hand and the other rapped tightly round a silver pocket watch he had looted just before calling the ambulance and the other a 17 year old boy wearing a bright red hoodie and trackies.
"What do you think got'im?" the boy said
"I'm not sure, Sync. I've seen immortals die before but never by one wound and never someone as powerful as Devin" the man replied
"Exactly Shadow. If someone took down Devin like this" gesturing at the body "then we are all at risk"
"I will make some calls, see if anyone knows anything. For now keep this to yourself and keep out of trouble, if you bring yourself to the attention of this assassin you will put us all at risk" Shadow stated before turning on his heels and allowing himself to be swallowed by the crowd.
Sync stood for a moment taking in his surroundings then hopped, bringing both feet off the ground and vanishing.

Shadow strode down the road ignoring the faces of the passersby, transfixed by the silver pocket watch he had removed from Devin before the Ambulance arrived. He would have removed the body altogether but it had been spotted by a civilian before he had got to it. The watch glittered in the day light tempting him to open it and finally find out why it was so coveted by the people who knew of the world that existed tucked away in the corners of this one.
The watch still being at the scene created two big questions for him:
Since someone had managed to kill Devin why would they leave such a powerful object behind?
Secondly if Devin knew he was in danger why did he leave it in his pocket?
Shadow sighed out loud and replaced the watch to his pocket. His grasp on his own mind was wavering, he didn't let anyone see his composer slip but this was just another weight on his already over burdened shoulders. At least Atlas didn't have to put up with people. Devin had seen it all in his 600 hundred years, if he was taken down with such ease how long until the rug was pulled out from under Shadow?
In his deep thoughts, Shadow did not realize that he had phased all the way to his offices. As he entered the reception he felt the sun's gaze leave him, breathing in he felt his powers restore. Even with his world falling apart getting out of the infernal glare always brightened his mood.
Nodding to the receptionist he entered the elevator and pressed the button for pent house.
Closing his eyes as the machine rumbled into life.

Something woke in one of the abandoned buildings on the edge of town. First a scuffle as one of the demons pulled itself out of the black mass of entangled limbs. This woke others, more and more grumbling rose from the pile as they all broke free from the spell caused by their transportation to Earth. They were hungry and knew exactly where to get a snack.
