Wanna write a book huh?  Well, anyone can write a book, whether it's good or not.  If you want any hope of succeeding you first need to work hard at your grammer and punctuation.  For someone who wants to write a book you're not very good at writing.  Secondly, story is a little weak.  Seems like you decided out of the blue to write a book and you don't yet know exactly what it's all going to be about.  Having and idea is a lot different then creating a story with actual substance.  It often takes years to make something good out of a simple idea.  Good luck in your efforts, I think you're gonna need it!

I agree and disagree with The AlphaOmega. Writing a book takes a lot of thought, but he just came up with it so be a little kinder. He's just looking for information. And it doesn't always take so long. First book I came up with took me five and a half hours to come up with, and everybody seemed to like it. Second book, on the other hand, took four years to perfect, but that's only because it turned out to be a thirty-six book series in the end. [;)] Also, just because he's writing like carp in here doesn't necessarily mean that he does that while writing on stories. [:(!] I write like carp all the time, but that doesn't mean that my grammar and punctuation sucks. And ever if his does, there's always spell-check and people who are really good at critiquing. [|)] Anyway, I've gone all puffy!

You should check out the writing section of the forums. It's got a few little pointers here and there. I would also reccomend the following books:
How To Write and Get it Published David Strode Adkins
Writers Market

And the links section in the writing forum has some very good sights, and sites that lead to other sites :)

Sorry if I came off rude, it wasn't what I wanted.  I guess I'm used to my english professor writing comments on my papers.  You know, very technical college stuff where everything has to be done just right.  If you're serious about the book, write it, no matter what.  And good luck!

no i agree with you. alphaomega just needs to shut it. i did think of it reall quick, but my friend has been reading like 1000 pages a week since like 4th grade and she has written a long book that most likely will get published. she gave me a billion pointers. its not liek i plan on finishing it this weekend i hope that this will take me deep into next year...school year so by the end of this year hopefully, i already got a publisher in mind that is great for begginer writters.

i just want to say that you are not a great writter either, and yes i do write badly while online as well as missspell words because i dont have to if i want to. i could.  i just thought that you were very rude.

i have been and advanced student in reading and writing since the 3rd grade. i was looking for ideas, and support if you want to critisiz then you can do it else where.

Hi FreeFaller,

As you requested, this topic has been moved to our Welcome to Writers Corner forum. All the best to you in your writing endeavors! [:)]

Dear FreeFaller,

Unfortunately, the fastest way for a fictional writer to improve his/her story is through criticism.  Typically, you give your story out to reading groups and beg for criticism.  Where was my plot weak?  Did my character appear superficial?  Where did the story drag?  Was I too wordy?  etc.

If you do not like criticism, your story will take a long time to 'mature'.  If you can take hard hits, yet rise up and improve the story, you will eventually reach the point of being a successfully published writer.  It sometimes takes rewritting sections of a story 50 times -- one famous author did this.  The other thing all writers must face is rejection by literary agents and publishers.  This happened to most famous authors when they started -- lots of rejection and criticism.  I was fortunate and got an already published author to critique my story (as well as reading groups and friends) to find flaws. I am in the process of making 'final' revisions -- for the nineteenth time.  The criticism and necessary changes are decreasing each time though.  Yeah!!!!  Big Thanks to all the people who helped me by criticising my story.  You know who you are.

I would recommend you read the 'How to Write Fiction' books listed in this link.

You obviously don't understand how hard it can be to finish a book (or even get half way through).

Excuse me? When I'm online, I usually don't pay any attention to how good my grammar or spelling is. Does that alone make me a bad writer? Hell no. (BTW, english is my second language.)

Have you even read the post? Because the poster was pretty clear that they know that this isn't a very well developed idea. The poster was very clear that it might be years from now before this idea is fisnished in the form of a book.

"I think you're gonna need it!"?? Not from you.

The AlphaOmega, maybe you should get over yourself and keep quiet unless you have something constructive to say. (Unless you like presenting yourself as an a**hole.)

The AlphaOmega had nothing to say which the poster didn't already know. He also didn't offer any constructive criticism. (There's a difference between b*tching [and assuming] and offering constructive criticism which could help the author improve.)

As for the book recommendation: I've read books like that, and while they might be of help to some, they usually just keep the writer from the work at hand (which is writing). The best way to improve in my opinion is to keep writing, rewriting, and then some more writing. Reading in the field that you're writing in is also a good idea.

Reading about writing is not enough. Hell, I'll even go as far as to say that it's just damn distracting!

FreeFaller, develop the idea and just write. Worry about how good it is later, or you'll never finish the damn thing. (You might wanna make an outline if you feel that you need it.)

i'm writing a new book. i write books and poems often. i havent sent them in to get published, i hope they will when i do. my new book is going to be on Ap. it's about this kid in high school who tells his frinds of something called Astral Projection. they make fun of him. anyway, he practices for many years (he started in elementary), then succeeds in highschool. he goes around and explores. he is comfortable with everything. one night he APs, he gets lost and he didnt know where he was. (the next part well i have never Ap but i hear that this doesn't happen, but it makes the story good) he meets this creature, very small. she says she knows how to get around and guides the kid back to his body, but when they get there the creature says that something is there, then they see a demon go into his body, the kids goes after it but he gets flung back,

the little creature says she knows somebody that might help. so they meet up with this other creature. he says that he cant do anything unless they can get someone in the regular world to help. the kid mentions that he had a teacher on the other side of the country, so they go on a journey and encounter many things,

then ...yeah, you have to read it for yourselves. it is going to be real entertaining i hope. you might recognize some of the story..its not taken from anything, but has a similar point to 2 shows. it probably wont be done for a few years as i just thoguht of it the otherday. i am still thinking of how to start it as in who should be telling the story or what not,,,

..SO if you have any ideas i would like to know. also i am looking for AP exp people to tell me their exp. so i can put them in the book. if i use your story i will mention you, as well as all the other people that submitted, like: "i thank.....for giving me ideas, and all those who also offered info." so... when it is done, everyone here will be the first to know.
